The Kansas City Symphony Board of Directors announced that after 18 years of leadership as Chair of the Symphony Board, Shirley Bush Helzberg will step down effective June 30, 2013, and assume the title of Chair Emeritus. Helzberg will be succeeded by former American Century CEO and longtime Kansas City civic leader, Bill Lyons.

Cantus is an all-male a cappella ensemble consisting of nine singers who perform a most eclectic mix of music from all eras and genres. The group’s Harriman-Jewell Series debut on May 16th – bumped from its February date because of mounds of snow – displayed this variety to a dizzying degree, and at the same time showed off the ensemble’s delicious, highly refined choral blend.

Young Composers Institute 2013 | KC Symphony

The Kansas City Symphony Young Composers Institute gives select high school students the opportunity to work one-on-one with Kansas City Symphony Composer-in-Residence, Adam Schoenberg. Under Schoenberg's guidance, students learn about composition through private lessons and group master classes. As a finale, The Young Composers Institute culminated with a public performance in Helzberg Hall by musicians of the Kansas City Symphony.
