Matthew Farmer's curator insight, Today, 1:53 AM

Powerful stories are told with conviction and the most powerful are often told on the basis of personal experience.

Learning to articulate your powerful personal learning experiences as stories will not only help you to reflect on your learning and therefore make it more powerful, but also help you share your learning with others and influence them to take action.  Leadership indeed!

Patricia D. Sadar - Leadership Strength Coach's curator insight, January 17, 8:18 AM

I love research that supports what most of us have seen for ourselves.  There is such a strong ROI on investing in leadership talent.  I was just having this conversation yesterday with an executive.

I believe that leaders are alot like computers.  Just like our computers, we need to make sure that we invest a significant amount of time and money into making sure that we have the most updated software and virus protection for our leaders.  Most leaders are running off of programming from years ago...Isn't it time to reboot, get the viruses out, and update our programming so that we can be aligned with the organization's network (goals), communicate more effectively, and work more efficiently.

As leaders when we stop learning we stop growing.  If that happens, what happens to our teams?

---If you have any questions, comments, or best practices about leadership…I am on it!  My goal is to share thoughts, tools, and inspiration to help you leverage your strengths, and help your teams do the same!  Walt Disney said, "Whatever we have accomplished has been because other people have helped  us."  So don't be afraid to ask for help...that is what I am here for!

Until next time...PS - Live on Purpose!

What Leadership Will Look Like In 20 Years

What Leadership Will Look Like In 20 Years | Leadership | Scoop.it

If we don’t get leadership right, all the bright shiny objects in the future will dangle beyond our reach. Will the tenets of great leadership change over time, and if so, what will leadership look like twenty years from now?

Via Becky Willmoth

Becky Willmoth's curator insight, November 5, 2014 7:16 AM

This Forbes article identifies six shifts that will change the face of leadership in the future:

  1. Questions not answers – answers are quickly becoming a commodity, of much greater value will be the ability to focus on the right questions.
  2. Employee pull – hierarchy and central control will be replaced by the delegation of decision making authority throughout organisations
  3. Customer pull - technology will make customization much more prevalent, requiring much greater interaction and creativity.
  4. Chaos Learning – our formerly stable reality is being replaced by constant change, and at an accelerating pace. Planning will be replaced by intelligent reaction.
  5. Focus on Growth – efficiency will become ubiquitous, instead competitive advantage will come from consistently inventing and commercializing new products and businesses.
  6. Purpose – increased employee and customer empowerment will require companies to align with missions that positively impact society.

If leaders need to adapt to these shifts, then leadership development must also align with this new reality. Experiential leadership programmes, that allow leaders to learn from new environments outside their comfort zone, offer pertinent learning opportunities. During experiential learning, leaders’ in unfamiliar environments, participant in a deliberate process of action and reflection. The exposure to vastly diverse individuals/ teams/ organisations, operating  outside of traditional protocols and hierarchies, allows room for collaboration, creativity, exploration, resilience and self belief to flourish. Following such experiences leaders report that they feel able to embrace increasing complexity and ambiguity, responding with agility to the constantly changing landscape.

The combination of being results-oriented but also supportive and seeking different perspectives is in my opinion the interesting dichotomy.

Results-oriented individuals will often rise to the top of organizations but those that's not always the case with those that seek different perspectives and act supportively.
