KATZ

Remix Theory

Remix Theory is an online resource by Eduardo Navas that offers some of his research on Remix.Navas focuses on Remix itself as opposed to Remix Culture. In this site you will find a brief definition of Remix, which is examined more extensively in essays that will be added to this website as they become available.

Coupe Carotte de Lucien Suel (2002 - Derrière la Salle de Bain Ed.)

L'écrit / L'écran:

Caviardage

John Baldessari: Recycling Images | Art21 "Exclusive"

Episode #093: While sifting through boxes of film stills in his Santa Monica studio, artist John Baldessari talks about being a pack rat and discusses his attitude towards appropriating images... Synthesizing photomontage, painting, and language, Baldessari's deadpan visual juxtapositions equate images with words and illuminate, confound, and challenge meaning...

Jenny odell • Satellite collections

Jenny odell: "In all of my prints, I collect things that I've cut out from Google Satellite View-- parking lots, silos, landflls, waste ponds. The view from a satellite is not a human one, nor is it one we were ever really meant to see. But it is precisely from this inhuman point of view that we are able to read our own humanity, in all of its tiny, reliably repetitive marks upon the face of the earth. From this view, the lines that make up basketball courts and the scattered blue rectangles of swimming pools become like hieroglyphs that read: people were here."

The Cut-Up Method of Brion Gysin by William S. Burroughs | RemixTheory.net

Remix resource... :

"At a surrealist rally in the 1920s Tristan Tzara the man from nowhere proposed to create a poem on the spot by pulling words out of a hat. A riot ensued wrecked the theater. Andr Breton expelled Tristan Tzara from the movement and grounded the cut-ups on the Freudian couch.

In the summer of 1959 Brion Gysin painter and writer cut newspaper articles into sections and rearranged the sections at random..."

Doug Rickard - A New American Picture

"Doug Rickard Work from A New American Picture. The older notions of photographers physically exploring their world may have in some ways come to pass... Rickard’s work on this project has a clever framework. He has been exploring the world through Google street views. Google has been mapping the world from the vantage point of the center of its streets..."

Views from Hitchcock’s "Rear Window" in Timelapse

"... Now filmmaker Jeff Desom has taken this footage — all the footage looking outside the Rear Window — and stitched it into a great little timelapse film. The order of events is the same seen in the movie, and the music, a re-arrrangement of Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5"

Everything is a Remix Part 4

"Our system of law doesn't acknowledge the derivative nature of creativity. Instead, ideas are regarded as property, as unique and original lots with distinct boundaries. But ideas aren't so tidy. They're layered, they’re interwoven, they're tangled."

Aktion Mix Comiks Commando

[Re]Cuts - Un projet vidéo d'Eduardo Navas (Janvier 2010)

"[Re]Cuts is a remix of image, sound, and text inspired by William Burroughs's aesthetics of tape recording. The video is also influenced by his cut-up method as defined for writing in "The Cut-Up Method of Brion Gysin." The video does not follow the strict cup-up rules professed by Burroughs, but rather considers his aesthetics as a point of reference to develop a non-sensical narrative"...
