An Eye on New Media

An Eye on New Media | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it

Welcome to 'Ken's Odds and Ends'. Click this link to go to my 'real' site.

Let me be the first to tell you that this "Odd's and Ends' site is not a polished Scoop.it Page. It is the 'waiting room' or 'overflow room' for my primary Scoop.it page which you can find here:
http://www.scoop.it/t/new-media-technology

The focus of that site is New Media in Society, Business & Classrooms

This site reflects those interests as well as some other scoops that don't fit directly into nice little boxes under the 'new media' umbrella.

Ken Morrison's insight:

I am trying to streamline my primary site.  Oddz and Endz is kind of an overflow of this original site but will have content that doesn't fit into nice little  boxes under the 'New Media' flag

Daum Kakao's 'Radical' Hire of Korea’s Youngest CEO - Branding in Asia Magazine | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it
South Korea's Daum Kakao company has hired the youngest CEO in the country in what some are calling a 'radical' move for a Korean top 500 firm.
Ken Morrison's insight:

He is the youngest of the 500 biggest Korean firms.  Dam Kakao also suggests that employees use English names as a way to shift away from some aspects of strict hierarchy in Korean business culture.

Ken Morrison's insight:

Here is a very interesting archive of the settlement of my part of Nebraska. I was raised in Colfax country, which touches Dodge country. It is interesting to see the blame-shifting in the documentation of clashes between Native Americans and new Nebraskans.

Quiet Leaders— 5 Tips for Success

Quiet Leaders— 5 Tips for Success | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it
Many people don’t associate introversion with leadership, but quiet leadership is not an oxymoron. In research for my book, “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking,” I found many examples of powerful quiet leaders—from Rosa Parks to Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates to Mahatma Gandhi and Eleanor Roosevelt—who all succeeded as leaders because of their quiet temperament, not in spite of it.

Howard Schultz: A Profile in Failure

Howard Schultz: A Profile in Failure | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it
The greatest people in history have been failures. Certainly, we remember these individuals as successes--success stories--and we treat those stories as legends and those individuals as gods. But each of them failed epically and repeatedly, more so than the combined successes of all of humanity. Failure should not be overlooked in anyone, especially not those we admire. It is through failure that these individuals were able to learn, grow and ultimately succeed. We know this about ourselves but even as we learn to accept our own failures, sometimes we don’t recognize that the most
Ken Morrison's insight:

This is a great reminder that Starbucks has made many mistakes through they years. They have also always regrouped, refocused, and kept moving.
