In 1947, the last wolf in Oregon was shot and killed for a bounty fee of $5 in the wilderness near Crater Lake.Now, after more than 50 years of absence, the animals are staging a comeback. They have established themselves in the eastern quarters of the state and are subsisting on local elk and deer herds–and, as might be expected, the occasional cow and sheep.

In the morning hours of Sunday, 11 August 2014, our beach patrolling team on the north-west coast of Boavista, Cape Verde, made a sensational discovery: An olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) crawled ashore and started to dig her nest as if this would be the most normal thing in the world. However, this species has never been reported to have nested anywhere in the Cape Verde archipelago!

On August 13th, a large whale shark 6.7 meters long and weighing 2.6 tons, was found dead in a fishing net by a fisherman in Pingtan County, Fujian Province. It’s the third whale shark to be captured by fishermen in Fujian in the past three months, with one in Xiamen in June and one in Shishi this August.
