Crystal Bellert's curator insight, March 27, 6:25 AM

The article points out how years of unchecked and unaccountable industrial rain can destroy a town and the health and wellbeing of its townspeople as well as the local produce, flora and fauna.  In the future I would love the opportunity to work in the restoration of a town that has been degraded by industrial pollution and neglect.  Just as the remnants of industrial pollution poses significant health threats to other people it is likely that I will face the same threats.  Who is to blame in a situation like this, the government or people in power at the time allowing the industries to do as they please or the companies for being so reckless and careless?  The assumption would be that these companies did not follow many if any occupational health and safety protocols, however does appointing an Occupational Health and Safety person or department make a reckless company more accountable for their irresponsible ways or does it allow more finger pointing?
