BMI is related with mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. Being obese and extremely obese have raised numbers of people with mood and anxiety disorders. Another disorder that is related to obesity is alcohol abuse.

Personality disorders are another thing that obesity brings out. These include major depression, dysthmia, manic episode, antisocial, avoidant, schizoid, paranoid, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders. These disorders can be very serious and cause many problems.

Even being moderately overweight causes a significant rise in anxiety issues and substance abuse. This shows that anything over the healthy weight does effect the mind negatively.

Women are more likely to have depression caused from obesity. major depression in women is 37% higher in women. Thoughts of suicide is also significantly higher in women.

Binge eating is almost the same thing as anorexia, except eating to much instead of not eating and is just as serious. A study has found that people who have problems binge eating also found that 51% of them also have major depression in their past. Women who suffer from binge eating also have problems with teasing and body dissatifaction.

Stress plays a major role in many people becoming obese. Stress causes many people to change eating and exercise habits. People that recently have an "emotionally draining event" eat too much of unhealthy foods without even knowing that they are doing this to themselves.

living with excess pounds doesn't only affect children it also affects the childs parents. Social stigma is very damaging to a child almost as damaging as the health effects. A study has shown that children as young as six discriminate against overweight children.

Some obese children can be accepted in school but the majority of the kids have low self-esteem. Low self-esteem can lead to the child doing bad in school.

Emotional eating is something that is very serious is overweight kids. This adds foods that doctors and parents are trying to limit in the child. This stress is compared to the death of a parent or moving away from their old community.
