Did you know that you can get the same or better results from eating the root turmeric as you can from taking cur cumin supplements? Always opt for the whole food.

Curcumin is the anti-inflammatory compound contained in the root turmeric. Turmeric is a spice commonly used in Indian recipes like curry. This spice has specific healing benefits for your body.

Eating turmeric daily will help you to decrease inflammation as cur cumin acts as an antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals. It also helps your body's own antioxidant enzymes work more efficiently. And less inflammation means a reduction in chronic diseases, arthritis, cancer, and Alzheimer's as you age.

Turmeric helps to increase the hormone BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor) which helps brain function, improves memory, and increases intelligence. With the increase in the hormone BDNF, there is less risk from brain diseases.

Turmeric lowers the risk of heart disease as consuming turmeric helps improve the function of the endothelium (the lining of the blood vessels in your body). And studies have shown that cur cumin has an effect like, but better than Prozac to treat depression.

Health tips: Add turmeric root or powder to your foods daily. With turmeric, to get all the benefits of its compound cur cumin, just add a few sprinkles of black pepper (piperine) with the powder. add a little coconut oil and you're ready.

You can make a turmeric latte, turmeric green smoothie, add turmeric to salads, mains. Some folks make a paste with turmeric to use as a face mask. Just be cautious as turmeric stains.

Did you know that plant based real whole food is the very best food for your health and well being? Every plant has nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes which your body requires to help it function optimally. Some plants have more, some less. When you consume more greens, veggies, and fruit daily, you are giving your body healing nutrients which are anti-inflammatory. Anti-inflammatory foods help to ward off and lower your risk of getting chronic diseases, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and help to keep your gut flora healthy.

Numerous studies have proved and others have shown that consumption of a complete plant based food plan can reverse heart disease and diabetes type 2. Eating more of these anti-inflammatory foods and much less or no inflammatory food (sugar/refined processed non food, animal based food, GMOs) helps you to lower your risk with all health problems. Remember the bacteria that inhabit your gut like high fiber anti-inflammatory foods. You have more microorganisms than you do human cells. when they’re healthy so are you. And when they’re sick, you are too.

Health Tips: Try and eat as much raw and living foods as you can every day. Eat organic sprouted foods, fermented foods, healing herbs and spices, dark green leafy veggies, cruciferous veggies (broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower etc), blue green algae, chlorella, soaked legumes (beans, lentils, peas), raw nuts/seeds, healthy fats, some ancient grains if you have no known gluten issues (quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, teff), and fruit.

Of course eat what works for your body. However, you will find when you begin eating more of the above foods, your body will feel much better. and when your body feels great, so will you. So consider adding one new food group each week. There are scads of delicious recipes online for you to try. If you just don’t like cooking, more and more companies are creating plant based food products. Just read the label. If sugar or artificial sweeteners are listed at the top of the label, it’s best to not buy because your gut flora doesn’t respond well to this sweet poison.

Mycoprotein, the novel ingredient in Quorn-brand frozen meat substitutes, is made from processed mold (Fusarium venenatum), can cause serious and even fatal allergic reactions. Though the manufacturer's (Marlow Foods) advertising and labeling implied that the product is "mushroom protein" or "mushroom in origin," the mold (or fungus) from which it is made does not produce mushrooms. Rather, the mold is grown in liquid solution in large tanks.

3 Reasons #Eating With The #Seasons Is Better For Your Body

There are wonderful benefits to aligning your eating with the seasons!

Via Sandi Cornez
more...
Sandi Cornez's curator insight, June 25, 10:26 AM

Did you know that when you buy food in season, you are getting the freshest ingredients, the most nutrients, and food that aligns with your body’s own needs? Local food from your area has a low carbon footprint compared to food that is flown and trucked in. Food that is picked unripe like fruit and other plant food may sit in a truck for a week before getting to your market. In a week, the food is already devoid of any of its nutrients, even organic.

Yes, it’s unfortunate that there are places in the U.S. that are considered food deserts. Planting your own garden will certainly help. Start a community garden as other cities have done. Petition your Congress person, your Governor, your Mayor to find ways to bring in healthy organic markets to your town. Run for office. It is the right of every person to have healthy nutritious food.

Health tips:  Grow your own raw living foods as in sprouts. You can order your supplies online from Dr Mercola, other sprout companies. Sprouts are nature’s best foods that keep on giving. Cut them, but leave the roots in the soil and they keep producing. You can grow sunflower shoots, pea shoots, broccoli sprouts, radish sprouts. You can also buy locally from an organic seed store. Many communities now have these stores or buy your seeds from online organic seed companies.  You want organic seeds. Legumes (lentils, peas, beans), nuts/seeds, ancient seed grains (quinoa, buckwheat, millet) can all be sprouted.

Sprouts have 10-30 times the protein nutrients of mature plants. It’s the best bang for your buck.

Did you know that aspartame, the artificial sweetener that is harmful for your body and brain was approved by the FDA even while knowing it was unsafe for human consumption? Time and time again this agency approves substances that are suspect and often untested, ingredients that are many times banned in other countries, yet given the green light in the U.S. The FDA works hand in hand with the pharmaceutical companies to your detriment.

Aspartame is a known neurotoxin, chemical sweetener that been shown to cause detrimental changes within your brain and your gut.  Aspartame affects your brain, appetite, micro biome, and increases the risk for Diabetes. When you change the balance of your gut and your food/beverages; this affects your blood sugar, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease. This information from Dr David Perlmutter.

Health Tips:  Ditch your diet soda habit, whether you're a youngster or a young at heart elder. The so called ingredients in these beverages are addictive, can produce weight gain, dehydrate your skin, and cause chronic diseases. Need anymore reasons?

Learn to love water, the lifeblood for your body. Drink filtered water,  drink green tea which is rich in antioxidants, drink hibiscus tea which helps your arteries, drink filtered water with a few drops of liquid organic Stevia. or a lemon/lime slice. Drink throughout your day. Both your body and brain need water.

Always do your own due diligence when buying ultra processed so called food/beverages.. Read the label and if you can’t read the words and pronounce them, then don’t buy them because they’re toxic chemicals which put you and your body into a metabolic disaster, causing major health issues and chronic diseases. And with these poisonous ingredients there is no moderation.

Top 11 #Science-Based #Health #Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds

Top 11 #Science-Based #Health #Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds | Nutrition Today | Scoop.it
Pumpkin seeds are loaded with nutrients that can improve health and fight disease. Here are 11 health benefits of pumpkin seeds, backed by science.

Sandi Cornez's curator insight, June 17, 9:58 AM

Did you know that pumpkin seeds are nutritional superstars tiny bundles of fiber containing a wide range of nutrients from magnesium to manganese to protein and zinc?  Fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts, and seeds contain an abundance of dietary fiber. Pumpkin seeds also contain plant sterols, high fiber, and are anti-inflammatory.

Pumpkin seeds are heart healthy, provide immune support as they are a rich source of zinc. Zinc helps your body with cell growth and division, sleep, mood, taste, smell, eye and skin health, insulin regulation, and men’s sexual function.

Pumpkin seeds as well as all raw nuts and seeds have an abundance of omega 3 fats. Pumpkin seeds are rich in ALA, which your body converts to EPA/DHA. You need all three.

Pumpkin seeds are known to be a good food source for men’s health. Research shows that both pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil are beneficial. Choose organic.

Health Tips:  Choose raw seeds to preserve the healthy fat. You can roast if you choose, but in a low setting for 10 or so minutes. Soaking raw seeds is beneficial to remove the phytic acid. You can then sprout, dry in a dehydrator. If you don’t have a dehydrator, use your oven on a very low setting. Best of all pumpkin seeds are delicious.

In place of junk carbs with no nutrients, opt for seeds and nuts for healthy snacks. Raw seeds make great additions to your salads, mains, green smoothies.
