Do GMO foods really affect our health? - Hippocrates Health Institute

Do GMO foods really affect our health? - Hippocrates Health Institute | Healthy Eating News | Scoop.it
Article by Dr. Howard W. Fisher No matter what you may think, GMO foods are not the same as non-GMO foods. Those involved companies are using the same approach as the tobacco industry has used to argue GMOs are harmless or even beneficial to health. Yet GMOs pose a vast diversity of issues. Splicing plant …

Did you know that Genetically Modified Organisms or Genetically Engineered (GMOs or GE) splice genes from one plant/animal and put them plant/animal in another thereby messing with Mother Nature’s inherent design?

Anything created in a lab has a very dismal track record when it comes to the human body and the environment.

Synthetic, chemical induced products, such as plastics, environmental toxins, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, drugs, antibiotics, and other human made disasters have proved themselves to be extremely harmful for people, animals, and planet.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared GMOs a possible carcinogen. Dr Steffanie Senoff, MIT scientist and many other credible scientists, researchers, physicians, speak to the inherent dangers of consuming GMOs, GE food, and even the new 2.0 gene-editing.

Read the full article for more on GMOs.

Health Tips: It can be a scary world out there. Keep ilife as stress free as possible for you. Consuming organic compete plant based foods is one way that works. Complete or total means not purchasing any processed questionable foods, not eating any animal based foods either.

Know your farmer to ask questions. Try to buy from food co-ops, farmer’s markets, CSA’s or other health markets. Many times big box store employees know very little about where the food originated, what kind of soil it was grown in. Keep asking those questions.

Sometimes food is labeled “sustainable”. This is a way that keeps plants healthy, without use of sprays, but isn’t organic because to be organic requires a lot of money upfront for the farmer.

Local is usually a good bet as well, especially when purchased in food co-ops and other healthier markets where the produce manager does know the answers to your questions.

If you live in a food desert, buy online from reputable organic healthy markets. Or grow your own garden. Start a community garden with friends and neighbors.

If you do buy some processed food, buy Non-GMO if possible and buy organic, if possible. Do your best for what works for you.

Follow Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Clean Fifteen and Dirty dozen info for your produce.

Just know that if you do buy pineapple, make sure it’s organic, because pineapples are all heavily sprayed with toxins.

Cleaning Up Your Kidneys: Helpful Foods and Drinks to Consider

Cleaning Up Your Kidneys: Helpful Foods and Drinks to Consider | Healthy Eating News | Scoop.it
Your kidneys are a prime detox organ in your body. Here's how to take care of them best and some foods for those with kidney disease or concerns.

Via Sandi Cornez

Sandi Cornez's curator insight, June 27, 6:36 PM

Did you know that when your kidneys do not function properly metabolic waste products accumulate in your blood which eventually lead to symptoms such as weakness, shortness of breath, confusion, and abnormal heart rhythms?

This information is from Dr Michael Greger, in his best selling book, “How Not to Die”.

Dr Greger says that most people with very poor kidney function don’t experience any symptoms. They either need a new kidney or need a transplant. Your kidneys can also fail suddenly because of certain toxins, infections, or urinary blockage.

The stats show that one in three people in the U.S. over the age of sixty-four may suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD). However Dr Greger says that three-quarters of the millions affected may not even know they have the disease.

This is very scary news. More than half of American adults aged thirty to sixty-four are expected says Dr Greger to develop kidney disease during their lifetimes. And most people die before reaching the dialysis stage because damaged kidneys take a huge toll on other body organs.

Proper heart function is tied to your kidneys. Here comes the kicker. Patients who are under age forty-five with kidney failure can be hundreds of times more likely to die of heart disease than those with working kidneys says Dr Greger.

Health Tips: Plant based real whole food to the rescue. You knew there was some good news. This lifestyle regimen is the best way to prevent and treat kidney disease.

You know that the Western or Standard American Diet is deadly to blood vessels in the heart and brain. So what do you think it does to your kidneys?

From clinical trials it has been shown that eating plant protein instead of animal based helps slow the deterioration of your kidney function. A 2014 double blind placebo controlled trial showed that plant protein helped preserve function in sick kidneys.

Animal protein is acid based, another reason why it is so harmful for your kidneys. Your body is the same today as it was in evolutionary times. Ancient human diets consisted almost entirely of plants. Your body is alkaline as are plants.
