You might be surprised to learn that, just like soda, some are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. Some can be very sneaky, like Kraft’s CapriSun juice drinks. It’s hyped as containing “no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives” and “25% less sugar than leading regular juice drinks,” but has HFCS as the second ingredient after water.  The same goes for Hi-C fruit-flavored drinks, made by Coca-Cola.

B-12, one of the B complex vitamins is an essential anti-fatigue vitamin because its function is essential to energy production. from cell formation, to helping produce adrenal hormones.  B-12 works with folic acid to control the production of oxygen-carrying red blood cells and keeps your nervous system healthy by helping your body use iron.

 

Vegetarians and vegans who don't eat animal products are at risk of being B-12 deficient as are some people who do eat animal products and don't get enough of the B-12 as they may not be able to absorb it. For people in these categories and for people over 50 it's recommended to take a B-12 supplement and/or take a B complex every day which will cover your B requirements.

 

Foods that contain B-12 - animal products, seafood, and spirulina (blue-green algae which is a high protein superfood), and nutritional yeast (high in B complex)

Vitamin B12 deficiency is more common for vegetarians and vegans. However, above the age of 50, we are all more at risk since we don't absorb as much nutrition from what we eat. Meat, dairy, fish and eggs, tempeh, spirulena, seaweeds and blue algae are all great sources of B12.

"Oh how the times are changing fast in our perception of nutrition. While our culture has been deeply embedded in fat-phobia for over three decades, it now seems that the tide is turning in favor of looking at dietary fat as a good thing."

 

My latest evidence–the June 23, 2014 front cover of Time magazine boldly proclaiming “Eat Butter. Scientists labeled fat the enemy. Why they were wrong” by Senior Editor and enviro-writer Bryan Walsh. This is a stark juxtaposition to the infamous front cover with the bacon and eggs shamed in a frown face that ran back on March 26, 1984 telling us about the “bad news” regarding fat on our cholesterol and health. And because this was Time magazine, it got some attention on mainstream television when media darling registered dietitian Joy Bauer offered up her analysis of this story on the TODAY show with Matt Lauer, Al Roker and the gang on set listening to this positive coverage about saturated fat being HEALTHY! Unbelievably amazing!

Children with a greater number of healthy food outlets near their homes had a reduced likelihood of being overweight or obese, finds a study. Children who had access to at least one healthy food outlet within 800 meters (about half a mile) of their home had a 38 percent decreased risk of being overweight or obese compared to those who did not. Each additional outlet for healthy foods within that distance was associated with a 19 percent reduction in risk of being overweight or obese.

Belly fat is mostly visceral fat, the deep down fat. No wonder it's harder to get rid of.  Eating fewer calories, exercise and de-stressing seem to help. I notice when I eat more veggie carbs and juicing: eat fewer starchy carbs and exercise, my belly fat goes down.
