Mertzimekis ## Completing the nuclear reaction puzzle of the nucleosynthesis of 92Mo One of the greatest questions for modern physics to address is how elements heavier than iron are created in extreme astrophysical environments. A particularly challenging part of that question is the creation of the so-called$p$-nuclei, which are believed to be mainly produced in some types of supernovae. The lack of needed nuclear data presents an obstacle in nailing down the precise site and astrophysical conditions. In this work, we present for the first time measurements on the nuclear level density and average$\ensuremath{\gamma}$strength function of$^{92}\mathrm{Mo}$. State-of-the-art$p$-process calculations systematically underestimate the observed solar abundance of this isotope. Our data provide stringent constraints on the$^{91}\mathrm{Nb}(p,\ensuremath{\gamma})^{92}\mathrm{Mo}$reaction rate, which is the last unmeasured reaction in the nucleosynthesis puzzle of$^{92}\mathrm{Mo}$. Based on our results, we conclude that the$^{92}\mathrm{Mo}$abundance anomaly is not due to the nuclear physics input to astrophysical model calculations. No comment yet.  Scooped by Theo J. The present result of the$B(E2;{4}_{1}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{2}_{1}^{+})$was found to be${50}_{\ensuremath{-}6}^{+11}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{e}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{fm}}^{4}\$, which is about three times smaller than the literature value, indicating substantially less collectivity than previously believed. Shell model calculations performed with the GXPF1A effective interaction agree with the present data and the validity of the standard effective charges in understanding collectivity in the nickel isotopes is discussed.

## Cloud server an avenue for foreign nationals to use certain U.S. nuclear codes

A cloud based server at a national lab allows researchers from across the globe access to computer codes that could help them design safer nuclear reactors, or safely transport nuclear material. Opened for business in April of last year by the Radiation Safety Information Computational Center, the server allows its users to work on projects “in the interests of the U.S. government.” So far, only 80 people have access, but Timothy Valentine, director of the center, hopes that will soon expand. The center is teaming up with Nuclear Energy Agency’s Data Bank to establish a training workshop in late fall or early winter for those who usually have limited access to the code, particularly Russian citizens.
