## Call for the “Lise Meitner Prize” of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division | e-EPS

The Nuclear Physics Division of the EPS supports the advancement and the dissemination of knowledge in nuclear physics. In this respect the NPD regularly awards some of Europe’s most prestigious prizes. Among these is the “Lise Meitner Prize”, named after the famous Austrian physicist who worked on radioactivity and nuclear physics. Nominations are now open for the Lise Meitner Prize in 2016. The prize, awarded to one or several experienced scientists, recognises outstanding work in the fields of experimental, theoretical or applied nuclear science. Particular consideration will be given to scientific activities that represent the core of the nuclear science in Europe.

## Dynamic Isovector Reorientation of Deuteron as a Probe to Nuclear Symmetry Energy

We present the calculations on a novel reorientation effect of deuteron attributed to isovector interaction in the nuclear field of heavy target nuclei. The correlation angle determined by the relative momentum vector of the proton and the neutron originating from the breakup deuteron, which is experimentally detectable, exhibits significant dependence on the isovector nuclear potential but is robust against the variation of the isoscaler sector. ## Two-hole structure outside 78Ni: Existence of a μs isomer of 76Co and β decay into 76Ni

In the EURICA campaign aimed at exploration of the $^{78}\mathrm{Ni}$ region, an isomeric state of $^{76}\mathrm{Co}$ has been observed via $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy. The nuclei were produced by in-flight fission of a $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ beam at the Radioactive Isotope-Beam Factory. Two coincident $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays of $192.02(30)$ and $446.4(7)$ keV from the decay of a ${t}_{1/2}=2.96{(}_{25}^{29})\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$ isomeric state of \$^{76}\

## A new way to make X-rays

MIT researchers have found a phenomenon that might lead to more compact, tunable X-ray devices made of graphene.
Mikko Hakala's curator insight,

This theoretical research predics a new X-ray generation method based on confined plasmons in graphene. The concept is unique and it would be a highly advantageous method, since low-energy electrons can be used to produce tunable X-rays. In all the current approaches high-energy charged particles are needed (synchrotrons, free-electron lasers), which requires large device sizes and intensities.

## EPS Young Minds Session at EuNPC | e-EPS

In the early stage of their training, young researchers need to learn a lot of skills for their future career. In order to assist with these challenges, the EPS Young Mind Project organised a special session at the European Nuclear Physics Conference, which took place in September in Groningen (NL). In this session invited speakers gave overview talks to train young scientists for their professional knowledge as well as in promoting science.An introduction of the Young Minds Project was given by Ulrike Ritzmann highlighting the fast growth of the project in the last five years and the variety of different actions of the self-organised sections. More than 30 self-organised sections in Europe engage in outreach activities, seminars and workshops to promote science and to broaden the knowledge in science and beyond train their professional skills.
