Covariant spectator theory of $np$ scattering: Deuteron quadrupole moment

Covariant spectator theory of $np$ scattering: Deuteron quadrupole moment | Nuclear Physics | Scoop.it
Until recently, theoretical calculations constrained by precise neutron-proton scattering data have predicted a deuteron quadrupole moment that is too small. In this paper, the quadrupole moment is calculated using the covariant spectator theory with an interaction based on meson exchanges. A detailed analysis of all the relativistic contributions demonstrates that this approach can explain the deuteron quadrupole moment very well.
