The yields of over 200 projectile-like fragments (PLFs) and target-like fragments (TLFs) from the interaction of (${E}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}=450$ MeV) $^{136}\text{Xe}$ with a thick target of $^{208}\text{Pb}$ were measured using Gammasphere and off-line $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy, giving a comprehensive picture of the production cross sections in this reaction. The lifetime of the ${2}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{0}_{\mathrm{g}.\mathrm{s}.}^{+}$ transition in the neutron-deficicient nucleus $^{112}\mathrm{Te}$ has been measured for the first time using the DPUNS plunger and the recoil distance Doppler shift technique. The deduced value for the reduced transition probability is $B(E2:{0}_{\mathrm{g}.\mathrm{s}.}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{2}^{+})=0.46\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.04\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}{e}^{2}{\mathrm{b}}^{2}$, indicating that t

The prospects for the synthesis of superheavy nuclei (SHN) using radioactive beams are evaluated quantitatively within the framework of a dinuclear system (DNS) concept.
