Basing our management in solid science and economics, and with the support of robust policing, we are changing the paradigm of the Amazon, for example, the destructive exploitation for controlled use, social progress and sustainable development.
Marian Locksley's insight:

In any business, two good principles to be followed are efficiency and sustainability. If you do your job efficiently, maximize your return if you do it sustainably, ensure the continuity of your return.

These are also solid principles on which to base our management of the natural world. Remove just as nature can bear – that’s sustainability – and make the most you can with it – that’s efficiency. - See more at: http://theterramarproject.org/thedailycatch/if-the-ocean-were-a-company-it-would-be-heading-for-bankruptcy/#sthash.tNKeoa4j.dpuf

Sea Shepherd's Paul Watson a repeat guest on Costa Rica's Rainforest Radio
Tico Times
Sea Shepherd Captain Paul Watson has accused the Costa Rican government of making false arrests in the murder case of turtle conservationist Jairo Mora.
Marian Locksley's insight:

When Costa Rican authorities rounded up eight suspects on the two-month anniversary of sea turtle conservationist Jairo Mora’s death, law enforcement was elated. Politicians had found respite from mounting international pressure against the Costa Rican government to solve the case and protect conservationists, who are now threatened by murderers in addition to battling a lack of resources and harsh tropical elements.

Rounding Up the Usual Suspects

Commentary by Captain Paul Watson

In the movie Casablanca, Captain Louis Renault responds to a murder. He knows who killed the man but elects not to arrest him. Instead he says to his police, “round up the usual suspects.”

In Costa Rica it looks like the usual suspects have been rounded up and arrested.

The killer then turns to Captain Renault and says, “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.”

After two months, eight “suspects” have been arrested and coincidently on the very morning of the day that international protests had been scheduled to bring attention to the fact that nothing had been done.

The Costa Rican government is hoping that the arrests will remove the pressure from them to solve the case.

Six men and two woman were detained and the six men will be held for up to six months while the investigation continues. That should give sufficient time for Chinchilla’s government to wind down their affairs and to leave the mess in the hands of her successor.

Touché Madame President.

The entire Jairo Mora Sandoval affair is now on the back burner and will remain there until Laura Chinchilla retires from office.

I doubt there will be any convictions, at least not of the guilty parties, because the facts simply do not add up.

The police released a statement that eight suspects had been taken into custody. It should have been left at that, BUT instead they added the following information that the murder was “unconnected” to narco-traffickers and these people were “just” robbers.

Police do not normally make such judgments during an arrest. Their job is to make the arrests and to report that the suspects have been detained. It is not their job to publicly proclaim a judgment on motive nor to pass on their biased opinions on the case to the public.

The government is directing their PR people to emphasis that this is a robbery and not related in anyway to narco-poachers.

It is very suspicious and I can’t believe that there is not a connection between the death of Jairo Mora Sandoval and the people who he warned the authorities about, who he felt were a threat to him.

The “robbers” were arrested in the community where the drug trade and turtle poaching flourishes.

I spoke directly to one of the witnesses, one of the four women who were kidnapped with Jairo and she said that Jairo knew who they were, and that he expected them to kill him.

The police say this is a robbery that fits into the M.O. of the arrested robbery suspects except for the fact that there is no record of murder of the robberies they were previously connected with.

There is a record of rape. One tourist couple were allegedly stopped by these suspects and the man was robbed and his wife was raped.

In the Jairo case four young women were not raped, although Jairo was murdered.

If it was a robbery, the men would have taken what they wanted from Jairo and the four women and let them go. It would not make any sense for the robbers to tie his hands, march him down the beach and then beat him to death.

The only motive for a robber to commit murder would be if the victim resisted or if there was a personal issue between victim and killer. Jairo was not in a position to resist. His hands were tied.

Why would robbers take the risk of marching their victim down onto the beach?

Jairo was considered a nuisance by the narco-poachers. They hated him and they had threatened him. He then reported these threats and shortly afterwards he was killed.

It is all very convenient.

Why were the Coast Guard ordered to not patrol off Moins Beach a year before? The place is a known drop-off point for drugs from Panama and Colombia. One would think that the government would be increasing patrols not eliminating them.

The beach is now unprotected and the turtles fair game for the poachers. The drug traffickers get to land their drugs at night. The real killers are most likely smiling and the politicians now have their “usual suspects” and everyone is happy, everyone that is except the conservation community, the turtles and the family and friends of Jairo.
