New Zealand is taking the lead from Australia against Antarctic whaling, with a plan that could prevent the Japanese hunt from being renewed in late 2015.
Marian Locksley's insight:

Courtesy of:  Captain Paul Watson facebook...

New Zealand Steps Up to the Plate as Australia Surrenders to Japan

Prime Minister Tony Abbott will not lift a finger to uphold the ruling of the International Court of Justice. Thankfully Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand said that New Zealand will pursue Japan before the International Whaling Commission.

According to Prime Minister Key: "New Zealand's view is there is no place for whaling, scientific or otherwise."

Australia’s Prime Minster has totally surrendered Australia’s interest and concern to Japan thus betraying the overwhelmingly pro-whale concerns of the Australian people.

Tony Abbott has adopted a religiously fanatical opposition to conservation and the realities of ecological law, in addition to failing to comprehend the English Language during those occasions when he is not rendered speechless.

Australia has abandoned their championship of the whales and the Southern Ocean. Thankfully New Zealand will carry the flag before the IWC and hopefully down to the Southern Ocean.

Sea Shepherd Australia will work with Sea Shepherd New Zealand to continue non-violent interventions against the continuing unlawful whaling activities by the government of Japan as ruled by the highest court in the world – the International Court of Justice.

By not taking action to uphold the verdict of the ICJ made in Australia’s favor, Australia is venturing into the realm of complicity with Japan’s illegal whaling activities.

Hopefully New Zealand will prevail with the IWC and will stop Japan’s intended invasion into the Southern Ocean in December 2015.

If not Sea Shepherd Global (not including Sea Shepherd USA) will return to defend and protect the whales.

Sea Shepherd USA is disallowed from participating against illegal Japanese whaling because the U.S. Federal Court disagrees with the ICJ and views Japanese whaling as legal and thus has upheld an injunction to prevent Sea Shepherd USA from involvement.

Surbhi Sarna knew she had to take action. The Salmon shark had beached itself in the shallow waters at San Francisco’s Land End.
Marian Locksley's insight:

Then with a gentle push, the freed shark swam away.

However, marine biologists were not optimistic about its survival. Bay Area Salmon sharks -- named because they prey upon the Pacific Salmon -- are currently being ravaged by a form of a bacterial brain infection that causes beachings.

It is likely, marine biologists say, that the shark did not survive once it returned to the wild.

"Vast methane plumes escaping from the seafloor" discovered in Siberian Arctic Sea
Marian Locksley's insight:

Örjan Gustafsson thinks that the mechanism behind the presence of methane seeps at these depths may have something to do with the ”tongue” of relatively warm Atlantic water, presumably intruding across the Arctic Ocean at 200–600 m depths.”

Some evidence have shown that this water mass has recently become warmer. As this warm Atlantic water, the last remnants of the Gulf Stream, propagates eastward along the upper slope of the East Siberian margin, it may lead to destabilization of methane hydrates on the upper portion of the slope. This may be what we are now seeing for the first time,” writes Örjan Gustafsson.
