THE SUPERLATIVES are all worn out; we have used them too often while trying to make some good book visible among others clamouring for attention. 'Unique]' 'Unforgettable]' 'Extraordinary]' But these words are used of any old rubbish. Peter Owen says Palace of Ice is the best novel he has ever published, and that is saying a lot.
Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

"How simple this novel is. How subtle. How strong. How unlike any other. It is unique. It is unforgettable. It is extraordinary".

Yes. That is what it is. The magic of getting inside a child's head and also take in the atmosphere, the nature, the imagined flute players by the roads, the sounds of the ice palace.

The Running Novelist - The New Yorker

The Running Novelist - The New Yorker | novelsiread | Scoop.it
A long time has passed since I started running on an everyday basis. Specifically, it was the fall of 1982. I was thirty-three then.
Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

I haven't really got a grip on Murakami yet. But reading about how he started running when he was 33 (yes, that's what I am now) was quite nice.

Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

Some years ago, my husband created a blog with his students while reading a rather sweet novel. It is still out there! He asked some questions and asked the students to give answers. I remember that we talked about whether or not the students read other replies and used them in their own comments - and I believe some of them did.

Struggling (!) with fame and shame. I enjoyed the first book out of six and will read the second one this summer. I think he says something about being Norwegian and at the same time it is a unique story about relationships and about exploring "self".
