Find The Right Startup Idea - Foundr

Find The Right Startup Idea - Foundr | Nouvelles technologies et Usages | Scoop.it
Here's how to know if you have a great startup idea or not - Foundr

There are many steps that need to be taken in order to be a successful entrepreneur. Whether it’s learning how to keep a handle on your stress, or fear of failure, or even technical skills such as learning how to best utilize social media. Being an entrepreneur is a long and arduous journey.

And the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

For entrepreneurs, it’s all about creating change, and challenging the status quo. For entrepreneurs, that first step is coming up with that game-changing idea. And that’s where most of us get stuck.

At Foundr, we get hundreds of emails from loyal readers asking us the same thing, “How do I come up with the right startup idea?”

It’s a simple question, but it’s actually quite complex. Because not all ideas are the same.

Each idea is different whether it’s in size, shape, or scope, and great ideas strike us at different times. Sometimes they take years to form, other times they hit us when we least expect it. Read more: click image or title.

Excellent article. Having an idea is just the start, but how do you go from there? And is this idea good enough to succeed and build  successful startup with? Including several TED talks and a chart from Y Combinator showing what kind of startups are needed. HIghly recommended.

Augmented reality makes us more human, not less

Augmented reality makes us more human, not less | Nouvelles technologies et Usages | Scoop.it
If standing next to someone with Google Glass bothers you, if you're turned off by the idea of your children playing with virtual toys rather than real ones or if you're afraid of a world where any stranger on the street can get your profile using facial recognition, I have three words for you: Get over it!
Emeric Mourot's insight:

Réflexion intéressante alors que les dispositifs de réalité augmentée ont plutôt tendance à nous transformer en humanoïdes…

Magic Leap Raises $794 Million And Announces "Mixed Reality Lightfield"

Magic Leap Raises $794 Million And Announces "Mixed Reality Lightfield" | Nouvelles technologies et Usages | Scoop.it

Magic Leap raised $794 million in new funding and CEO Rony Abovitz posted a blog suggesting the secretive company is moving closer toward a product, writing “we are setting up supply chain operations, manufacturing.”

Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba led the round and Joe Tsai, Alibaba’s Executive Vice Chairman, is getting a seat on the board. The announcement roughly confirms a December report suggesting the company was raising money in this ballpark.

The Series C round puts the Florida startup’s funding to date close to $1.4 billion.

Magic Leap also seems to have named its technology “Mixed Reality Lightfield” with subtle language in the blog post linked above that might be commentary about current VR technology, which isn’t able to perfectly reproduce what your eyes see in the real world.

“It comes to life by following the rules of the eye and the brain, by being gentle, and by working with us, not against us,” Abovitz wrote about the company’s technology. “By following as closely as possible the rules of nature and biology.”

Abovitz previously suggested Rift-like VR headsets have a history of “issues that near-eye stereoscopic 3d may cause” and that “we have done an internal hazard and risk analysis….on the spectrum of hazards that may occur to a wide array of users.”

As Occipital CEO and co-founder Jeff Powers tells us, the company revenue currently mostly comes from its hardware, “but we’re really selling a combination hardware-software package. The Structure Sensor by itself only generates a 3D depth map; the transformation of that into 3D user interfaces and 3D models is all thanks to software we deliver.”

La suite logicielle qu’ils développent est directement concurrente de MyCaptR produit par la startup française Levels3D, mais ils n'en sont qu'au début, et avec un réalisme : we’re just at the beginning of what our software can do.

J’aime bien la vision du CEO J. Powers « bring spatial computing to everyday life ». L’idée est intéressante et nous remarquons bien qu’au delà d’usages pro, il y a beaucoup à faire pour le perso, le divertissement, etc.

Evidemment, comme toutes les sociétés de ce domaine : the company plans to look at more ways to use its sensor for virtual and augmented reality applications.
