Robin Good: Clipix is a Pinterest-like clipping and collection app which allows you to capture images and content from any web page and to organize it in custom visual boards.
One key feature that differentiates Clipix from Pinterest (though it is likely that Pinterest will add this feature soon as well) is the ability to organize together multiple sets into a "multiboard". Other key features include a "Price Drop Alert" which emails you when the price of one of the commercial products you have clipped drops and
"...For example you might have a multiboard that you call “Recipe Ideas” and inside you’d have 3 clipboards: Baking Recipes, Soup Recipes, and Health Recipes. The easiest way to create a multiboard is by dragging one clipboard from the icon in the lower right-hand corner into another clipboard." Robin Good: Sparkwise is a new, open-source free web service which allows you to assemble and curate beautiful looking data-dashboards containing the most relevant info and data about a person, a company or an issue. You choose. How does it work. You simply connect your social accounts to Sparkwise and then you start to drag and configure the widget buttons representing different data types onto your page. For example you can drag a Twitter Fan Count widget and specify for which Twitter account you want that widget to display the data. There are widgets for just about anything from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google Analytics statistical counters to any data, image or video coming from other sources. You can even type in your own data. You can create as many dashboard/pages as you like, and publish only the one you want, while keeping control of which widhets and data everyone gets to see. If you want to create visual engaging story-pages with lots of data to support your focus, this is really a great tool to explore. Recommended. Try it out now: http://sparkwi.se/ ;

Just a reminder of what's Content Curation: Content Curation is the process to discover, grab and organize digital content for a specific niche or matter.

Robin Good: The David Ramsey Map Collection is an historical collection of thousands of beautiful maps and atlases organized and made freely accessible to the public online in unique and unprecedented ways. This is a stunning example of a visual curated collection, offering thousands of beautiful images at very high quality, and multiple ways and tools to navigate this ocean of maps. This online collection offers in fact no less than 12 different ways to navigate its contents by providing dedicated browsers and visual imaging tools ranging from 2D-GIS to SecondLife and virtual QTR panoramas. For example, with the Google Earth visualization, any map in the collection can be seen perfectly mapped on the globe, or by using the Luna Browser one can create collections, save and download images, annotate maps or even create embeddable presentations.
All of the images in the collection have been published online at full resolution and are available to download at different quality levels under a Creative Commons License for non-commercial uses.
This is truly a spectacular collection with marvellous maps and atlases enriched by complementary data, visualization tools and a formidable array of navigation devices. Possibly the best online curated collection I have seen so far. Must-see. 10/10 About page: http://www.davidrumsey.com/about Collection and Tools to navigate it: http://www.davidrumsey.com/view Home page: http://www.davidrumsey.com/ Une magnifique collection de cartes.

Robin Good: Content curation will play a major role both in the way we "teach" and in the way we educate ourselves on any topic. When and where it will be adopted, it will deeply affect many key aspects of the educational ecosystem. This article, builds up over my recent presentation on Content Curation for Education that I delivered at Emerge2012 virtual conference. In that presentation I claimed that the adoption of "curation approaches" will directly affect the way competences are taught, how textbooks are put together, how students are going to learn about a subject, and more than anything, the value that can be generated for "others" through a personal learning path. If we learn not by memorizing facts, but by collaborating with others in the creation of a meaningful collection-explanations of specific topics/issues/events then, for the first time in history, we can enrich planetary knowledge each time we take on a new learning task. And it's already happening. Yes, we are only at the very early stages, but, in my humble opinion, there are enough signs and indications that this is not going to be something marginal. In this article I outline ten key factors, already at work, which, among others, will very likely pave the way for a much greater and rapid adoption of curation practices in the educational / academic world.
