Open Knowledge: Changing the global course of learning

Open Knowledge: Changing the global course of learning | Notebook | Scoop.it

Open source, open science, open data, open access, open education, open learning -- this course provides an introduction to the important concept of openness from a variety of perspectives, including education, publishing, librarianship, economics, politics, and more, and asks you to discover what it means to you. Open Knowledge is international and multi-institutional, bringing together instructors and students from Canada, Ghana, Mexico, the United States, and the rest of the world. It will challenge you take control of your own learning, to determine your own personal learning objectives, to contribute to the development of the curriculum, to reflect on your progress, to learn new digital skills, and to take a leadership role in the virtual classroom. It will also provide you with the opportunity to connect with colleagues from different countries and professions, and to better understand areas where your interests overlap and where unexpected distinctions exist. We hope you’ll consider taking this journey with us.

Scoop.it among top 10 content marketing brands | Notebook | Scoop.it
We're back with content marketing! After our initial post on content marketing influencers in last March, we are back with an updated list with even more thought leaders, network maps and insights. At Onalytica we were really excited to see that the content marketing community enjoyed the list we posted earlier this year and we wanted to provide them with a wider view on the online debate around content marketing.

Nature publisher hopes to end 'dark sharing' by making read-only papers free

Nature publisher hopes to end 'dark sharing' by making read-only papers free | Notebook | Scoop.it

The publisher of the prestigious Nature family of scientific journals today unveiled a new approach to freely sharing papers that are normally protected by a paywall. The initiative seeks to provide an alternative to—and potentially end—so-called dark sharing, a practice that some scientific publishers find problematic.

HyperCities ~ New Learning Times

HyperCities ~ New Learning Times | Notebook | Scoop.it

by Carmen James "HyperCities is a dynamic educational project at the intersection of cartography and information visualization, humanities and technology, geography and digital space. The project has produced grounded cultural narratives in 27 international cities. HyperCities uses Google Maps and Google Earth (among other technologies, like GPS-enabled cameras and cell phones) to allow users to explore historical layers of city spaces. Accessing the cities and exploring them is straightforward. Once a city has been selected, users can select the time period or the area of the city they are looking to explore on the map. Within each frame, users can access everything from scholarly content to community-generated content. Users can also click on historic sites to learn more about them and overlay older maps of the same cities."
