1964-2014 - Prédictions d'Asimov

1964-2014 - Prédictions d'Asimov | Notebook | Scoop.it

Voici quelques citations :

— En 2014, seuls des vaisseaux sans équipage humain auront atterri sur Mars, même si une expédition humaine sera en préparation et une colonie martienne déjà imaginée ;

— Les robots ne seront pas très communs ni très performants, mais ils seront bien là ;

— Pour de courtes distances, des « trottoirs roulants » feront leur apparition dans les centres-ville ;

— On se focalisera de plus en plus sur les moyens de transport qui ont le moins de contact avec le sol ;

— Des satellites synchronisés, en orbite, rendront possibles les appels directs partout sur la planète ;

— Les communications seront à la fois visuelles et auditives. Vous pourrez à la fois voir et entendre la personne à qui vous téléphonez. Les écrans serviront non seulement à communiquer, mais aussi à consulter des documents, lire des livres, regarder des photos ;

— En fait, en 2014, il est fort probable que lors des grandes expositions, des télévisions 3D à taille humaine diffuseront des ballets ;

— En 2014, il sera fort probable que la population mondiale atteigne les 6 milliards 500 millions. Celle des États-Unis sera probablement autour des 350 millions ;

— Des repas entiers, semi-préparés, pourront être stockés au frigo et prêts à être consommés. Les équipements de cuisine pourront préparer des « repas automatiques », chauffer l’eau et en faire du café ;

— Les appareils électriques n’auront plus besoin de fil électrique pour fonctionner, évidemment ;

Explore old maps of US cities

Explore old maps of US cities | Notebook | Scoop.it

"This cool new historic mapping app from the folks at esri and the U.S. Geological Survey is worth exploring.  What it does is take 100 years of USGS maps and lets you overlay them for just about any location in the nation. That allows users to see how a city – say Harrisburg – developed between 1895 and today.  The library behind the project includes more than 178,000 maps dating from 1884 to 2006."

Curation as Digital Literacy Practice

Curation as Digital Literacy Practice | Notebook | Scoop.it

Ibrar Bhatt writes: "Digital curation therefore is not just about finding relevant material, although that is a significant part of it, but is also about creating a specific and unique experience by utilising the resulting materials which then become contextualised within a new space. A curator, therefore, whether she is a journalist-by-proxy such as Popova or a student completing an assignment in a classroom, not only collects and interprets, but also creates a new experience with it. In this respect, curation is a process of problem solving, re-assembling,re-creating, and stewardship of other people’s writing."

How to cite Social Media in scholarly writing

How to cite Social Media in scholarly writing | Notebook | Scoop.it

Of course, citation style matters, and the two most popular are the APA and MLA. The APA (American Psychological Association) has their rules for citing social media in academic writing. They even have a thorough ($12) guide to clarify the process, while the MLA (Modern Language Association), as far as we can tell, has yet to expressly address apps and social media as anything other than “software.”

And to an extent, this makes sense. As media becomes more nuanced, new modalities emerge, authors use new channels to distribute their thinking–and even as the “crowd” becomes a legitimate source of information (see wikipedia, twitter, erc.), new rules for governing that reality will continue to emerge. The more general those rules are, the less reactive governing bodies will have to be moment by moment.
