I've always used illustration notes very sparingly. Once in a blue moon, I will share my vision for the art, but I like to trust the artist to come up with his or her interpretation of the text and feel the text should be able to lend itself to artistic inspiration. I've been pleasantly surprised by the balance between our visions for the picture books.
