Thinking about clensing? You may want to think again.

Physicians warn of the dangers of cleansing and fasting type diets.

Janna Caponera's insight:

Many people are turning to detox diets, fasting, and cleansing to lose weight. In light of the facts of these techniques, I have found through research the dangers and truths everyone should know before committing to such diets.

First, physicians assert that there is no basis in human biology to indicate fasting or detoxing is even necessary. The human body already has a means for detoxifying and cleansing toxins naturally - the kidneys, liver, and spleen do this for us.

Second, a detox or cleanse will make a person lose weight quickly, almost too quickly. According to physicians at the Mayo Clinic, when a person cleanses, the weight he or she loses is actually water weight, not fat. Therefore, if a person is wanting to lose fat and inches, they have not succeeded because all they lost was precious water the body needs to optimally perform.

Third, not only has a person not lost fat, but also in diets like these, the initial weight lost is gained back and is more than likely carrying a few extra pounds with it. You are probably asking yourself how this can be. The answer is simple. During these types of diets, the body's metabolism slows to a rate that the body becomes a cold storage unit, not a fat burning furnace. This is your body's natural survival mechanism.

Lastly, cleansing places the body in danger because of the loss of fluids and sodium. The human body needs a certain amount of fluid and sodium to maintain electrolytes and proper organ function. An electrolyte imbalance can lead to organ failure, which could lead to permanent damage or worse, death.

In looking at these facts, one can conclude that these types of diets are dangerous and do not provide a healthy, long lasting weight loss and weight maintenance program. Proper nutrition, exercise, and the correct balance of supplements will allow us all to achieve positive results in weight loss, weight maintenance, and an overall healthy lifestyle.

If starvation, muscle loss, severe headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea sounds like a good time, then cleansing diets are for you. Since I believe most of you will not find the above list appealing, then turn to North Texas Wellness Group to help you achieve your goals in a healthy, positive way that will enhance all aspects of your life - physically, mentally, financially.

Mel Robbins: Are You Willing to Fight for Happiness?

Mel Robbins: Are You Willing to Fight for Happiness? | North Texas Wellness Group | Scoop.it
Are you willing to fight for happiness? Sometimes a hard-won battle makes victory even sweeter.
Janna Caponera's insight:

Have you ever paused to think about your hardest faught battle? We may never win every battle, but I know I take great pride in knowing that I gave it my all. When Jeff and I started our wellness business we were scared to death of failing. We knew what we wanted and knew that owning our own business was the only way we were going to get it. As our business grew, so did our level of happiness. I reflect every day when we recieved our first customer - I was elated! We had overcome our first hurdle - it was a battle, but we perservered. Today, hundreds of customers later, we continue our battle; only when we reach our optimal level of happiness, will the battle be won. I thank God every day that wer were not members of the lucky sperm club, I can honestly say we have a greater appreciation for our achievements.

Keeping New Year's fitness resolution

Keeping New Year's fitness resolution | North Texas Wellness Group | Scoop.it
The New Year brings the promise to resolve to do, well, something. For many people that something is to lose weight. It's actually the number one resolution people make.
Janna Caponera's insight:

Creating a habit usually takes 21 days. According to Jay Dixit of Psychology Today, people must reprogram their brain in order to attain maximum resolution. Rewiring your brain isn't easy, however. One must have the will power to want to change - not just a small change, a radical change. Dixit suggests that the first 72 hours of change are the hardest; after those witching hours, the change becomes easier and before you know it, you have created a healthy eating habit.
