A new crop of HP laptops flip or spin, and run Windows, Chrome or Android | Nonprofit Tech | Scoop.it
New models sport 360-degree hinges and hybrid forms. A refreshed Chromebook comes in more colors. As for Android, it comes in a buzz-worthy yellow-and-black clamshell.
Ken Charvoz's insight:

I bought a Bluetooth keyboard for my iPad several years ago. It's quite dusty on a shelf. It seems to ruin the experience of having a small, slim device. An Android laptop form factor just doesn't make sense to me.

Office for iPad proves that Office 365 is the best value

Office for iPad proves that Office 365 is the best value | Nonprofit Tech | Scoop.it
Office 365 was already the better value, but Office for iPad is the cherry on top that clearly sets it apart from buying the traditional Microsoft Office desktop suite.
Ken Charvoz's insight:

I couldn't agree more. I use Office 2013 versions through Office 365 exclusively now, even though I have all of the older versions available. Having the licenses for multiple installations means I don't have to worry about changing or upgrading computers or adding a Mac or an iPad to my account. My overhead is reduced to deleting one computer on my account, and the almost seamless automated process of downloading Office 2013 suite to another device. The iPad apps are, so far as I have looked, better than I expected. I really can get a surprising amount of work done on an iPad. The iPad apps are actually more robust than the browser versions. The biggest adjustment is having to deal with a different cloud storage option - or rather lack of. Microsoft will significantly expand the use of OneDrive, since that is the easiest, and sometimes only, cloud storage that works with the apps.

Ken Charvoz's insight:

Never take the raw numbers of Android users vs Apple users at face value. The types of users and devices are totally different, and in meaningful ways for nonprofits. IOS device users are far more active on the Internet, and, on a per user basis, donate far more than Android users.

News Feed FYI: Cleaning Up News Feed Spam | Facebook Newsroom

News Feed FYI: Cleaning Up News Feed Spam | Facebook Newsroom | Nonprofit Tech | Scoop.it
We're improving News Feed to reduce stories people frequently tell us are spammy and that they don't want to see.
Ken Charvoz's insight:

This is important info for nonprofits who are trying to game the Facebook algorithm. As with all trends that show success, everyone jumps on the bandwagon until the axles break. What Facebook is saying is that the same cute kitty picture has been shared by everyone so much that it's just another form of spam, and they are going to penalize your post by, as they say, de-emphasizing it.
