NonProfit Management Journal

NonProfit Management Journal | Nonprofit Management | Scoop.it
Thank you for reading:

This is our collection of news, articles, interviews, videos, and other ideas that we've found related to that curious thing that is Nonprofit Leadership. We put these here in one place after weeding through the chaff. We provide what's interesting and pertinent while excluding purely promotional materials. You should feel confident when you click on one of these links that it won't lead you through some spammy, scammy, adventure before you get to the heart of the matter.

Our work sees us partnering with some of the world's foremost thought leaders, and working with both nonprofit and for profit businesses. One of our core philosophies at Krios Consulting is that it is our job to open up the pathway between these two worlds. That businesses and nonprofits have much to learn from each other. To those ends we'll often post articles here that aren't specifically true to nonprofits but which may help shed some light on the greater world of business leadership.

We thank you for tuning in and suggest that you subscribe to the topic so you'll get daily updates from us.

Many thanks,

Social media consulting for nonprofits (Attracting young people to your nonprofit http://t.co/f5ozD7b4bv)
Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

Ah yes, young people in our nonprofits.  How do we get them in the door, and keep them there?  It's a challenge many of us face. What do you do to engage young people in your nonprofit?

Kedisa Johnson's comment, May 16, 6:13 PM
A compelling mission will pull them in. Keeping them is the greater challenge. So how can organizations truly retain energetic and vibrant young talent? Two strategies: Engage and develop. Engagement has a lot to do with acculturation. Often times young talent aren't appropriately on-boarded into the organization. Development is training and then some. I think skill identification and asking the question "how do I utilize this individual?" is also a part of it.

The Ideal Praise-to-Criticism Ratio

The Ideal Praise-to-Criticism Ratio | Nonprofit Management | Scoop.it
It's the secret to high-performing teams -- and strong marriages.

Which is more effective in improving team performance: using positive feedback to let people know when they're doing well, or offering constructive comments to help them when they're off track?

New research suggests that this is a trick question. The answer, as one might intuitively expect, is that both are important. But the real question is — in what proportion?

Via David Hain
Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

It's a fairly obvious notion, but people do perform better when there is a generous sprinkling of criticism.  It works well for children too.  And why not?

I'd agree with most of what this article suggests.  Nonprofit annual reports are, for the most part, staid, boring, and often filled with balderdash. How do we move to a new form of reporting that shows true impact in exciting ways?  How does your nonprofit do this?

Ken Dickens's curator insight, April 19, 1:36 PM

Non-Profit reporting should be about impact. Not admin costs, not, percentages.  It should tell a story to potential donors as to the results their donations will produce.  Sounds like a business, doesn't it?  Ken
