The Biggest Mistake Nonprofits Make With Video | Getting Attention

The Biggest Mistake Nonprofits Make With Video | Getting Attention | Nonprofit & Small Business Tips | Scoop.it

Creating engaging, sharable videos doesn’t seem to come naturally for most nonprofits and I think I know why.  Instead of highlighting naturally dynamic stories about people, nonprofits tend to create videos about programs.

I call this The Program Trap.

Facebook Exchange news feed campaigns as powerful as AdWords [data] - Brafton

Facebook Exchange news feed campaigns as powerful as AdWords [data] - Brafton | Nonprofit & Small Business Tips | Scoop.it
Two case studies suggest that FBX news feed campaigns sometimes outperform name brands' AdWords programs.

Condensed...

Advertisers who use pay-per-click models to drive traffic back to their websites should investigate potential lead generation and conversion opportunities through Facebook Exchange (FBX). According to a new report from Triggit, an FBX partner, companies can see impressive results through social media marketing via Facebook. In some instances, results rival or outperform campaigns on Google AdX.

[The] international retailer and large apparel site saw CTRs 16 to 24x higher than alternative FBX options, which rival averages from AdWords. The international retailer’s campaign is 38x higher than its Google AdX efforts.

Perhaps more important for businesses is FBX news feed campaigns’ cost effectiveness. Triggit reported that its two clients saw much lower cost per acquisition (CPA) rates than right-side FBX ads and Google AdX campaigns.

If your content distribution strategy includes FB, then you may want to test this program. Although the report focuses on B2C advertisers, there may be an opportunity (thus the "test" recommendation).

Insight: In Washington, lawmakers' routines shaped by fundraising

Insight: In Washington, lawmakers' routines shaped by fundraising | Nonprofit & Small Business Tips | Scoop.it

(Reuters) For lawmakers in Washington, the daily chase for money can begin with a breakfast fundraiser in the side room of a Washington restaurant.

At noon, there might be a $500-per-plate lunch with lobbyists in a Capitol Hill town house. The day might wrap up in an arena sky box in downtown Washington, watching a basketball game with donors.

In between, there is "call time" - up to four or five hours a day for lawmakers in tough re-election campaigns - in telemarketing-style cubicles a few hundred yards from the Capitol. The call centers, set up by the Democratic and Republican parties, allow lawmakers to chase the checks that fuel campaigns without violating rules that ban fundraising from their offices.

For many lawmakers, the daily routine in Washington involves fundraising as much as legislating. The culture of nonstop political campaigning shapes the rhythms of daily life in Congress, as well as the landscape around the Capitol.

It also means that lawmakers often spend more time listening to the concerns of the wealthy than anyone else.... MORE

Twitter Prepping Ad-Retargeting Exchange to Rival Facebook's - AdAge

Twitter Prepping Ad-Retargeting Exchange to Rival Facebook's - AdAge | Nonprofit & Small Business Tips | Scoop.it
following the success of facebook's retargeting exchange, twitter plans to build its own version of fbx to let brands retarget visitors with ads on twitter.

Excerpt...

The micro-blogging platform is planning to erect an exchange similar to FBX that would let brands retarget people who visit their sites with ads on Twitter, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Twitter did not respond to requests for comment.

It's unclear how far along Twitter is in building the exchange, though Facebook managed to create FBX from scratch in a month. In keeping with the company's measured approach to advertising, Twitter is performing its due diligence. Since at least late last year, the company has met with several FBX partners who are well-versed in locating on Facebook people who had previously visited a brand’s site and retargeting them with non-standard display ads on the social network, in hopes of luring them back to the brand site. It works by by pinging a partner when a cookied user visits Facebook so that the partner can bid to target ads to that user on the social network. The talks are early but ongoing, and Twitter has not briefed potential partners on a planned launch date.

Millions of users turn to Pinterest to enhance their lifestyle. And they are doing so by using the search function on Pinterest. Here’s a fun fact.

Did you know that Google has a search engine just for recipes? It’s been around for years, but almost nobody I know uses it.
