The Economic and Political Impact of Immigrants, Latinos and Asians State by State

The Economic and Political Impact of Immigrants, Latinos and Asians State by State | NonA | Scoop.it

Not every state is equally impacted by migration, and the demographic profile of migrants is different for every state. This is an online mapping tool to search a large database that can give the user state specific information about the impact of economics and politics based on migration from Latin America and Asia on any given state.

Unit 2 population and migration

This map shows the population of migrants in certain states and compares them to other states. This demographic specifically highlights Texas and shows its migrant information. Texas has the highest immigrant income out of all of the states. Also Texas has very few naturalized citizens who used to be an immigrant.

This map relates to unit 2 because it shows the illegal immigration. And immigration theories. This proves ravensteins laws correct because it shows how people move a short distance to migrate, knowing that most migrants to America come from Latin America. This map is a great example of ravensteins theories and unit 2

Feds Round Up 30 In Miami For $200 Million In Medicare Fraud | NonA | Scoop.it

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – More than 30 South Florida healthcare professionals were rounded up and charged with submitting $200 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare.

The arrests Thursday morning were part of a nationwide take down of Medicare fraud suspects. An additional 60 medical professionals were arrested in seven cities including New York, Houston and Los Angeles. They were allegedly responsible for another $229 million in fraudulent claims.

In addition to Thursday’s arrests, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said her agency used new authority under the federal health care law to stop future payments to many of the health care providers suspected of fraud...

Facebook Jihaded twice in a week

Facebook Jihaded twice in a week | NonA | Scoop.it

A few days ago, the Facebook Digital-Sharia Enforcement Patrol detained one of my profiles for 24 hours over a post about a Nazi website in Iran. And this morning I was informed that both of my profiles have been taken in and charged with digital blasphemy for this post.

One of my profiles will be in lock up for 30 days and the other for 3 days. As a result, I won't be on FB at all until Friday--and then only on my newer profile. In addition, Melanie Oberg was also suspended for my post because she's an admin on the Kuffar News FB page. She will be back tomorrow.

Honestly, I can't wrap my brain around why the minions keep playing FB Jihad with my profiles. They seem to never learn. Had it not been for Facebook Jihad Fatwa On Islam would not exist and neither would Kuffar News. Every time the Muslims are successful in having me thrown off Facebook for an extended period of time, I use that time to create more and bigger problems for them.

Seriously, Muslims, how stupid are you?

Visualizing Regional Population Statistics

It was just over two centuries ago that the global population was 1 billion — in 1804. But better medicine and improved agriculture resulted in higher life expectancy for children, dramatically increasing the world population, especially in the West.

This is an excellent video for population and demographic units, but also for showing regional and spatial patterns within the global dataset (since terms like 'overpopulation' and 'carrying capacity' inherently have different meanings in distinct places and when analyzed at various scales). It is also a fantastic way to visualize population data and explain the ideas that are foundational for the Demographic Transition Model.

80% of Americans Live Within 20 Miles of a Starbucks

80% of Americans Live Within 20 Miles of a Starbucks | NonA | Scoop.it

The green dots on this map representing Starbucks locations which are obviously clustered in major metropolitan centers.  Cross-referencing this Starbucks address location with population data, Davenport explains his mapping technique: "By counting the number of people who live within a given distance to each Starbucks, we can measure how well centered Frappuccinos are to the US citizenry. In other words: draw a 1-mile circle around every store, then add up the % of the population living within the circles. Repeat for 2, 3, 4....100 miles."   The result of this data is a fabulous logrithmic S-curve which explains much about the American population distribution.

Making Sense of Maps

TED Talks Map designer Aris Venetikidis is fascinated by the maps we draw in our minds as we move around a city -- less like street maps, more like schematics or wiring diagrams, abstract images of relationships between places.

This video touches on numerous themes that are crucial to geographers including: 1) how our minds arrange spatial information, 2) how to best graphically represent spatial information in a useful manner for your audience and 3) how mapping a place can be the impetus for changing outdated systems. This is the story of how a cartographer working to improve a local transportation system map, which in turn, started city projects to improve the infrastructure and public utilities in Dublin, Ireland. This cartographer argues that the best map design for a transport system needs to conform to how on cognitive mental mapping works more so than geographic accuracy (like so many subway maps do).

When trying to graphically represent spatial information in a useful manner for your particular audience, you will have a lot to take into consideration. How familiar are the travelers with the area you map out? Are there visuals to precisely mark on the map so that will they accurately correspond to the area?

Former executive director of the Florida GOP says he saw a golf cart full of hookers at a party fund-raiser (VIDEO)

Former executive director of the Florida GOP says he saw a golf cart full of hookers at a party fund-raiser (VIDEO) | NonA | Scoop.it

Via Orlando Sentinel:

Delmar Johnson, the state's star witness in the fraud and theft trial of former Florida Republican Chairman Jim Greer, told attorneys in a sworn statement that he saw a golf cart full of women – he thinks they were prostitutes - at a party fund-raiser in the Bahamas in 2008.

Johnson, 33, of Winter Garden, gave a video-recorded statement June 15 in the criminal case against Greer. The Orlando Sentinel obtained a copy Friday.

Johnson described the former party chairman as "dictatorial" and said Greer blind-sided him in early 2009 when he proposed creating Victory Strategies LLC, the company that prosecutors say Greer and Johnson used to steal money from the state party.

Johnson's most dramatic revelation was about a party fund-raiser in the Bahamas in 2008. Then-Gov. Charlie Crist was there, Johnson said, as well as Greer; former party finance chair Harry Sargeant III; lobbyist Brian Ballard; and other major donors.

"I specifically saw a golf cart with young ladies drive by, the extent of why they were there I did not specifically know," Johnson said. "But I could presume they were prostitutes."

His account meshes with the statement Beth Kigel, a Palm Beach County lobbyist who was interviewed by FDLE agents in 2010. She said she heard reports of women who were paid for sex at that gathering...
