7 things leaders should learn to say

Every one of us can do with an extra dose of humility and self-awareness to remind us that we're not always the insanely great business leaders, executives, managers and workers our oversized egos tell us we are. Along those lines, here are seven phrases you should learn to say -- and mean.

Forgive and Remember: How a Good Boss Responds to Mistakes

Failure is inevitable, so the key to success is to be good at learning from it. The ability to capitalize on hard-won experience is a hallmark of the greatest organizations - the ones that are most adept at turning knowledge into action, that are best at developing and implementing creative ideas, that engage in evidence-based (rather than faith- or fear-based) management, and that are populated with the best bosses.

Failure instructs. In fact, there is no learning without failure - and this includes failing at dangerous things like surgery and flying planes. Discovery of the moves that work well is always accompanied by discovery of moves that don't.

TouchDown for iOS

TouchDown for iOS

Darryn Capes-Davis's insight:

Do you need a better email client for your iPad? While the standard iOS client works pretty well for on the run communications, there are some things that I need out of my email client that it does not give. The one game changer is categories. My email archival system is wholly reliant on categories. When I want to archive an email, a give it one or more categories and move it on. So my email client really needs to support categories.

The other major feature is to support folders in a logical way. The iOS client does a pretty good job, but it could be better.

I have been on a holy grail search of an email client that supports categories. The other week I found it. TouchDown for iOS. It supports categories for emails. These categories get configured locally to become available. However, a quick sync of recent categorised emails brings these into the application, leaving only colours to be set up if you so desire.

TouchDown also supports folders somewhat better than iOS. Moving emails around folders is available with a recent folder list at disposal. Since I mostly only move to one folder, that means that folder is always on hand. With these two features I can now do what used to be a desk only task, to being an on the run task. Categorising and moving emails can now be done with a cup of coffee sitting in the sun, perfect for chilly mornings of winter.

TouchDown is available in the App Store.

Yes, I am ruthless with emails and like my Inbox to be at zero net gain after a day, and most definitely a week. A good way to tidy up emails on the run allows this to happen.
