Karen Dietz's curator insight, May 8, 2013 12:43 PM

Here's a quick post about where to find stories about your organization that you can then share with others.

It is written for nonprofits, but frankly any organization can use the same tips.

If you get stuck wondering where to find stories, then check this list. Start with your employees and have a story gathering session where you share a story and then use a story prompt to get the ball rolling ("Tell me about a time when...").

Don't have employees? Then gather friends, vendors, select customers and others close to your business who can share their stories with you about what you do and the difference your product/service makes.

Some of these tips require a bit of work and preparation. But it will be worth it. Stories are fun and rewarding -- to collect and listen to.

  • A 21% year-over-year increase in online revenue overall, with only International groups recording a decline in online giving.
  • A sharp decline in certain key email metrics, such as a 14% decline in click-through rates for advocacy messages and 27% decline for fundraising messages. Those declines were driven mostly by Rights and International groups, whereas advocacy messages sent on behalf of Environmental groups performed best.
  • Since 2011, online monthly giving grew 43%, or more than twice as fast as one-time giving. Although still a small percentage of overall giving, sustaining gifts for International groups now account for18% of revenue.

Signal Culture - providing artists, researchers, and innovators with residencies, resources, and exhibition opportunities | Non-profit Donations | Scoop.it

Our mission

Signal Culture encourages creation of new work, building of community, and connection to history in the field of experimental media art by providing artists, researchers, and innovators with residencies, resources, and exhibition opportunities.

Our Activities

Signal Culture was recently incorporated as a NY state nonprofit corporation. We are in the process of planning, fundraising, and finding just the right home! We are looking forward to hosting our first residents in mid 2013.

As things move forward, we plan on creating a residency space for artists, historians, innovators, hackers and others dedicated to experimental approaches to media art to develop their work. In addition to this, we will be organizing public exhibitions, screenings, talks, publications and other activities related to the field of experimental media art. We are currently in the process of doing interviews that will be released as podcasts. Please come back often as new information about the various programs will be announced in the near future.

Story Trumps Description (Nonprofit Storytelling #9) | Getting Attention

Story Trumps Description (Nonprofit Storytelling #9) | Getting Attention | Non-profit Donations | Scoop.it

"Show rather than tell to motivate supporters to care, then act.

If you take away just one thing from this post, make it this—You want your listener to take action because they want to—not because they’ve been told to. When you craft your stories to ensure listeners to connect your info with what they already know (test it), you’re far more likely to build trust and rapport with them. In turn, this group relationship is most likely to be transformative, motivating their desire to take action, now and in the future, and to spread your stories/messages to friends and family." Read the full article to see a before and after example.

Shareable: How to Crowdfund Your Campaign or Non-Profit

Shareable: How to Crowdfund Your Campaign or Non-Profit | Non-profit Donations | Scoop.it

Crowdfunding is growing fast: in 2011, a comprehensive review put the industry’s size at $1.5 billion, and projected that it would grow to $2.8 billion by the end of 2012. Crowdfunding is also becoming more diverse: platforms now exist that make it possible to put money towards everything from equity investments in businesses to interest-bearing loans for solar energy to donations for music, film, and art projects.
