How the Government Will Spy on You If the Patriot Act Dies

How the Government Will Spy on You If the Patriot Act Dies | Privacy Please! | Scoop.it
The story being spun by the defenders of Section 215 of the Patriot Act and the Obama Administration is that if the law sunsets entirely, the government will lose critical surveillance capabilities. The fearmongering includes President Obama, who said: “heaven forbid we’ve got a problem where we could’ve prevented a terrorist attack or could’ve apprehended someone who was engaged in dangerous activity but we didn’t do so.”
No Boxes's insight:

The same old fearmongering,--kind of tiresome after a while.

Twitter: Government requests for your data spiked 40% since summer | Privacy Please! | Scoop.it
Like it or not, governments are more curious than ever about Twitter users.
No Boxes's insight:

Surely no one is surprised that big brother wants to know everything about them. Not only who we are, what we do and where we are, but how we think. People say if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't be worried.  I disagree.  Whenever any entity becomes omnipotent that entity can say what they like, do what they like and enforce what they like.  We are quickly arriving at a state where the illusion that #privacy is a luxury will be replaced by the acceptance, (of the fact), that there is none.
