Pixar has become synonymous with success in animated film. From Toy Story 1, 2 and 3, to The Incredibles to Up, and many films in between, the studio has captured audiences and awards galore.

But there is a tiny perfect aspect of Pixar’s success that may be ignored in the rush to see the big films, if the viewer isn’t careful enough.

These are the animated shorts that often accompany a Pixar release.

The first, and still memorable, featured a small lamp with endless curiosity. It was the brainchild of John Lasseter, the man behind Pixar, and the simplicity, the humanity of that little light remains palpable.

The creator of the latest short will be at the Ottawa International Animation Festival Sunday, Sept. 25. First-time director and creator Mark Walsh, a self-described 37-year-old nerd, will be on hand to talk about animation and Pixar and the process of building a successful film.
