Top 10 mistakes in handling website images and how to solve them

Top 10 mistakes in handling website images and how to solve them | Mobile Development News! | Scoop.it

Images are a major part of any modern website. Images nowadays account to more than 60% of a website's total bandwidth. This is even more pronounced when dealing with cutting-edge web design. On an image rich social website employing a Pinterest-like layout, this number can reach upward of 85% (!).

Bandwidth is unfortunately a costly commodity. For high traffic websites, bandwidth will probably be responsible for the majority of your IT costs, easily surpassing hosting and storage costs. In addition, such a large volume of traffic takes time to consume, and so, when browsing your website, your visitors are likely to spend a lot of time waiting for images to load. Read more: click image or title.

Things to Consider While Building Secure Mobile Application

Things to Consider While Building Secure Mobile Application | Mobile Development News! | Scoop.it
Passwords no longer ensure user protection. Power your mobile app with high end security measures. Check out how to build next generation secured mobile applications.

Mobile apps – has any other trend dominated news headlines more than over a decade now? Thanks to unmatched Smartphone proliferation, mobile usage has grown radically than ever before. Today, it seems every company has its own mobile application. And why not! It is a powerful and cost-effective tool to attract, engage, and retain your customers.

A great thing about mobile applications is that they have filled our lives with ease and convenience. The worst thing is that the more these mobile applications become popular, the more they are prone to hacks. As applications become increasingly ingrained in personal and professional lives – using mobile devices to upload sensitive business information or perform financial transactions – our valuable information are at a higher risk of being misused and stolen.
Most apps expose sensitive user data such as identity, privacy, files, contacts, phone, location, or malware. They tend to store critical data like credit card numbers, banking and payment PIN numbers, online service passwords, etc. Unsafe access and sensitive data storage makes user information even more vulnerable to hacking and unscrupulous activities. No wonder, the onus, then, lies on you – to build high-end mobile apps that keep user data safe and secure, and inaccessible by hackers. And for this, it is vital to implement effective security measures across every stage of mobile app development.

Here are some valuable tips to build next generation secured mobile apps: Read more: click image or title.

5 Mistakes in Mobile App Marketing That Need To Be Avoided - Social Media Week

5 Mistakes in Mobile App Marketing That Need To Be Avoided - Social Media Week | Mobile Development News! | Scoop.it

Today, applications (apps) are a very important part of our daily micro-moments such as: I want to go, I want to know, I want to buy, etc. In fact, users spend an average of 30 hours every month in these moments.

Apps are a very powerful and effective way for businesses to build strong and long lasting relationships with their customers and clients. However, a mobile app marketing strategy can complement a company’s offline experience such as in-store special offers. Apps can be a huge hit or a huge flop. When it comes to marketing your mobile app, any mistake can lead to disappointing results with over spending.

Before looking at the top five biggest mistakes in app marketing, let’s take a look at some statistics first:

  • Of 15,000 mobile users surveyed in 15 countries, roughly 72 percent of respondents said they were unhappy about sharing their personal information when using an app.
  • About 42 percent of mobile users expect a mobile app to be designed for their convenience.
  • Forty-five percent of app users say the user experience across devices is both frustrating and inconsistent. Read more: click image or title.

For iOS app developers, approval process is the most traumatic part. Their weeks/months of app development struggle may fall into pieces just because of a single mistake. It’s better to save your app before it hits a rejection nightmare.

The Tech Talent Shortage Is a Lie

The Tech Talent Shortage Is a Lie | Mobile Development News! | Scoop.it

Everybody knows hiring is difficult for tech companies.

The Huffington Post called the shortage “devastating,” and the Obama administration’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology predicted a shortfall of 1 million technical professionals by 2020. What’s more, 90 percent of executives report that they struggle to recruit and retain tech talent.

But as an engineer, founder and tech executive, I see a certain absurdity in this conversation — I’ve never thought talented people are particularly tough to find. Perhaps I don’t understand because I’m lucky and haven’t faced the same challenges as other tech CEOs, but I don’t think so. I think I, too, have lived those experiences.

In fact, I’ve come to believe the so-called “talent shortage” is a lie — the real shortage is of companies that are willing to invest in talented people. Read more: click image or title.

  • Cautious about User Interface: For any device, UI UX designs are very important. The challenge with the wearable device is that it has a smaller screen size; hence iPhone app developers have to be very cautious about designing the wearable application. The best approach can be to emphasize the methods like passive data collection and speech focused commands.
  • Cross Platform Support: To capture different users, make sure to develop a wearable application which can support all the platforms.
  • Quick App Development and Launch: New devices are getting launched every day so if you want to achieve success, you have to be fast in your wearable app development and launch.

Here's How Much a Millennial Needs to Save Each Month to Retire With $5 Million

Here's How Much a Millennial Needs to Save Each Month to Retire With $5 Million | Mobile Development News! | Scoop.it
For your retirement to comfortably last the decades you can expect to live, you need to start saving now.

How much will you need to retire?

Well, in 2014, Matthew Illian, a member of the Investment Committee at Marotta Wealth Management, Inc., wrote that “Someone retiring now in 2014 with $1 million at age 65 can safely withdraw $43,600 a year. However, [because of inflation], today’s 20-year-olds will need over $7 million to have that same lifestyle when they retire. In 1970, they would only have needed $166,000 in retirement to have a similar purchasing power for the rest of their life.”

If that’s the the case, then a 25-year-old with a starting salary of $50,000 would have to save around 14.65 percent of their salary throughout their career. The problem with that scenario is that Illian determined this retirement figure if the average inflation rate over the next 45 years will be 4.5 percent. Currently, the inflation is around 1.4 percent and hasn’t been close to 4.5 percent since 2008.

That still doesn’t mean that millennials should only plan to retire with a million. As Robert Powell reports in USA Today “Older Millennials -- those born in the early 1980s -- will need about $1.8 million salted away to maintain their standard of living in retirement while younger millennials -- those born in the late 1990s -- will need upwards of $2.5 million.”

There are several reasons why millennials need this much money set aside. Read more: click image or title.

A. Inflation

B. The article discusses specifically the steps to take if a millennial wants to save up at least $1 million. The amount suggested differs due to inflation now and the predicted inflation. Inflation has completely changed retirement. Meaning that millennials should plan to retire with more. Averaging putting away 14% of their career earnings. This is negative economic news in my opinion; people are having to put away more and more money.

C. I did not realize that people had to stow away so much of their earnings.

French startup CodinGame just raised $1.6 million from Isai for its innovative code learning platform. As the name suggests, CodinGame is all about games — not game development, not gamification, just plain games.

The logic behind each exercise is tied to an actual game so that you get visual feedback and an actual reward when you solve an exercise.

“This is not just a gimmick as we have metrics to back our vision. If you mix games with learning, you get a very motivating experience,” co-founder and CEO Frédéric Desmoulins told me. “Playing and learning at the same time is a virtuous circle.”

For each exercise, you can pick a programming language among more than 20, such as Python, Ruby, Java, Scala and more. The company targets people who already know the basics when it comes to programming and also has tough challenges for expert developers. Read more: click image or title.

Primer CEO Kamo Asatryan has helped dozens of mobile apps achieve explosive growth. Here are his go-to tips.

Kamo Asatryan may very well be one of the best kept secrets in the startup ecosystem. He’s one of a small handful of people who have observed hundreds of mobile apps, thought deeply and scientifically about their mechanics, and determined what they could change to grow faster.

To demonstrate his particular brand of magic: Asatryan’s team recently worked with an app that required users to swipe through four screens explaining the product in-depth before they could sign up. Then the permissions screen literally begged them to let the app access their location data. 60% said no and went on to a dead-end experience.

To turn things around, Asatryan tested a radically different approach: Assuming that users who installed the app already understood the need to provide their location data. This allowed them to axe out the long-winded welcome flow and make the permissions request the second screen. The text was changed to say that users needed to “Enable Location Permissions” (making it clear that it would be for their benefit), and they were literally not able to move on from the screen without saying yes. This sounds risky, but after the shift, 95% of users said yes and went on to a much better product experience. Read more: click image or title.
