What do we mean by share your evidence? It is a great question. What happens if something is said that does not fit with our expectations and pre-suppositions?

Sans questions pas de raisonnement.

D'ailleurs, qu'est ce que la réflexion si ce n'est l'enchaînement de questions?

Et l'intelligence ne serait elle pas simplement l'enchaînement de bonne questions?

Maslow and Student Motivation

Another question that has one looking at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, this time with the primary question geared to students: Why do students try in school?

Below are the five areas and what may be motivating the student.

* Survival - "I am in danger here or at home. I'm motivated by fear (intrinsic)."

* Self-care - "I'm motivated to stay afloat and avoid more work (extrinsic).

* Belonging - "I'm motivated by friends, family, and parents (extrinsic).

* Esteem - "I'm motivated because it makes me feel good about myself (both).

* Self-actualization - "I'm motivated in school because its important work (intrinsic)."

In each of the five areas you will find four to six statements that provide more depth to the statement.

Financial Literacy Through Infographics & Animations

Financial Literacy Through Infographics & Animations | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

"Financial literacy is about much more than balancing one's (online) checkbook. Financial literacy represents a cross-curricular mindset, a sophisticated understanding of how money, media, and messaging unite in the public sphere."

Can we teach students in elementary and middle school the concepts of financial literacy? With the right resources the answer would be yes.

ASIDE has provided a range of excellent resources in this post. You will find an excellent infographic that covers the Story of Money, beginning with bartering animal hides and teeth as well as shells up to a gold coin minted in Australia in 2011 that weighs (take a breath) 2,231 pounds. (There is a great math problem to be solved.)

A number of videos are also provided. One looks at student debt and one is a TED-Ed video.

There are also additional resources provided.

Financial literacy is an important concept for students to learn, and I would think the earlier they understand the concepts the better off they will be. To learn more click through to the post.

Teaching Metacognition: How Students Think Is Key To High Achievement

Teaching Metacognition: How Students Think Is Key To High Achievement | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

"A few years ago, I came across some interesting research by cognitive psychologist Ronald T. Kellogg. He claimed that the mark of an expert writer is not years of practice or a hefty vocabulary, but rather an awareness of one’s audience. This made sense to me, and I wondered if it were true in other disciplines as well."

An interesting tool for writers, which includes the following features:

Easy and efficient way to organize, structure and keep track of notes the way you want. Keep it simple or take it to the next level - advanced data management with unique type, tagging, templating and filtering features.

Trackers

This unique templating feature in Beyondpad will allow you to create your own forms for tracking things that are important to you. Track your time spent on a project, expenses, fitness and much more.

Tags

It’s much more that usual #tags. In Beyondpad you can tag notes and trackers, and even tag other tags and create folder like structure for neat filtering magic. Even notes can become tags and you can link to them. Tags have plenty of unique features to explore, you should check them out.

Notes

Text notes, checklists, links, numbers and timers - we have them! In trackers Beyondpad also gives you combo boxes and dropdowns. More items to come like image, date, calendar and map.

Did you know that PBS has a portal for students? It provides resources for art, math, science, social studies, language arts, health, and NOVA Labs.

You will need to create a teacher account (click on this link to get to that page: http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/

You will need to click on LogIn (upper right hand corner) and will be given the option of creating a new account.

There are several tools offered to help make life easier for teachers. You will find a Lesson Plan Builder, a Quiz Creator and StoryBoard tools.

You can then create accounts for your students. The site will give them access to your material as well as additional resources. You will find over 700 resources in Spanish.

PBS provides access to many great programs. This site may be useful for projects or specific units.

Checking the sense of a field-report or essay prior to submission could provide insight that leads to improvements which in turn might improve grades.

There is some concern however about the potential loss of intellectual property created by authors who then submit draft work for analysis - there appears to be loss of entire ownership by agreeing to this sites terms and conditions.

A peer review might still be preferred, along with some good old fashioned proof reading..
