India: Future of e-Agriculture is revolving around mobile telephony | ICTPost.com

India: Future of e-Agriculture is revolving around mobile telephony | ICTPost.com | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

Planning experts and economists have warned that the world is about to be confronted with a global food crisis unlike anything it has encountered before.  Unbridled population increase combined with longer life expectancies, land conversion, biofuel production and a shrinking agriculture sector exacerbated by rising oil prices and climate change may lead to food shortages and spiraling food prices at a global scale. Within this milieu, e-Agriculture and its emphasis on information and communication technologies and applications in the agricultural sector have been perceived as irrelevant. Not many are aware that the answer to the impending global food crisis may be found in e-Agriculture.

Bringing CoPs to the next level: Communities of Champions(CoCs)

The problems that confront e-Agriculture nowadays are to a scale that often requires policy interventions, not technological solutions. CoPs must now delve into the policy process and progress into Communities of Champions or CoCs. From CoIs that share information and CoPs that share solutions, e-Agriculture must move into CoCs that mobilize sectors through information, knowledge and advocacy.

I recommend you read the full article and take a look at the detailed 'Impact Pathway for Mobile and Women'.

[Situational Analysis - Context

Despite the rapid growth in mobile telephony in low and middle-income countries in recent years, women are 21% less likely than men to own a mobile phone. This has given rise to a mobile phone ‘gender gap’, where there are 300 million fewer female mobile subscribers than male subscribers in low to middle income countries. As a result, women are less likely to reap the benefits of using mobile phones, such as gain economic opportunities and to empower themselves at the household level, community level and beyond.]

ICT for climate-smart agriculture and "green growth": Online forum 5-16 March 2012 | e-Agriculture | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

Climate-smart agriculture seeks to increase productivity while reducing contributions to climate change. Success is essential in order to provide enough food for the world’s population and to mitigate environmental damage. The World Bank, FAO and the e-Agriculture community invite you to explore how information and communication technologies (ICT) can support "green growth" and climate-smart agriculture.

ICT holds real promise in two particular areas: as tools for land use planning and management; and, as risk management tools for climate change adaptation. This will be the focus of the two week online discussion.

Share your experiences, ask questions to the subject matter experts, and explore new areas for ICT to have a positive impact on agriculture and climate change. Join us at http://www.e-agriculture.org/forums/current-forum

Avoid making childish statements on decriminalisation of politics: Mayawati to Narendra Modi - Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) itself has in its rank and file people with criminal records, and urged their prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to avoid making childish statements on decriminalising politics.
"The party itself has a lot of people with criminal records, because of which, there are a lot of issues going on within the BJP. Instead of making such childish comments, they should take a look at their own party," said Mayawati.

E-Government Development: Driving Collaboration, Transparency and Citizen Engagement

E-Government Development: Driving Collaboration, Transparency and Citizen Engagement | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

The satisfaction of citizens and businesses is one of the most critical measures that reflect how e-government is being developed. Therefore, during this period, the focus of e-government development is shifted from improving the management function in public entities to serving the society.

This is the overarching theme of the 11th Vietnam E-Government Symposium organised by International Data Group (IDG Vietnam) and CEO&CIO Club upon the approval of Office of National Steering Committee on Information and Communications.

Critique of the Manifesto for an Accelerationist Politics - P2P Foundation

Critique of the Manifesto for an Accelerationist Politics - P2P Foundation | NGOs in Human Rights, Peace and Development | Scoop.it

This is not the least merit of #Accelerate: Manifesto for an Accelerationist Politics. It has at least some grasp of contemporary conjuncture in which we find ourselves. But the grasp is in my view, only partial. In some ways it’s a rather old-fashioned text. Of course, one is always drawing on the past to imagine a future. But this process – some would call it détournement, some would call it hacking – has to be done with a little more historical depth and breadth. What follows, then, is a friendly commentary and critique of #Accelerate. The numbering of these counter-theses match those of the original document.
