I've known about this tool for a long time but haven't used it. However, I do think it would be very useful to most business owners. And they can expand to a paid-for plan with more capacity if they want.

I know this site has been around a while so it must be a survivor. I've always been tempted to try the free version of their product (referred to here) but the primary reason I never did was because I'm worried that too many plugins might drag down the load-time on it. But.... I definately think it's a great idea for the right blog and market.

SEO Blow Up
I know better, but moving to Woocommerce just blew up every URL on my blog. This post explains how URLs are tricky. URLs get changed in many unintended ways.

Changes to your Wordpress categories, use of an add on like Woocommerce or re-publishing after changing the URL window all change your URLs and require 301 redirects to maintain continuity with Google. URLs aren't just YOURS as this post shares.

After spending 3 days creating manual redirects so my URLs won't stay broken my advice is try not to do that :). Marty

Consumers shopping for freebies? Or marketers assuming so?

Consumers shopping for freebies? Or marketers assuming so? | News Which may interest You | Scoop.it

It’s a pretty common lament online amongst brand marketers that the market is so spoilt by those offering everything free to the consumers, that there’s hardly anybody wanting to purchase anything at all.

Now we all know that isn’t true, because research every year points to fast growing volumes of internet selling and buying, and the trend seems only more increased with mobile now becoming the medium of choice for even more buying and selling than before. Could it be that it’s not really the customers online who are window shopping for freebies, and it’s the marketers who are assuming that customers want things free and will not pay?...

Shuvo Saha, director, Google Digital Academy
Our latest Talent Revolution survey, run with BCG, has revealed that there is a much larger gap in digital skills than we might have thought before – even in some of the largest and most well-resourced companies in the UK and Germany, which are digitally advanced markets. If “full adoption of all digital best practices” was a score out of 100, the industry scored itself 57, and it looks like there are quite significant capability gaps in mobile, video and use of ad technology.

SMM For Startups
Great tips here for #startups including:

1. Create Your Social Media Strategy

2. Choose the Right Social Networks

3. Ask Your Audience What They Want
4. Provide Customer Service on Social Media
5. Build An Online Community
6. Constantly Evaluate Your SMM Strategy

7. Don't Be Afraid To Experiment

I left a comment on Shane's post about the need to curate content and blog. Social media without meaningful shares is spam. Startups are so self referential. They are so widget focused it can be hard to have them THINK about the world their widget fits into. Content curation helps open any company up to great relevant content from other sources. Curating that content creates a supportive social network and places a startups business in context.
