This article clearly labeled the "offender" based on her "deviant acts". This article takes the position that Amanda, the alleged offender has no hope and should not have any hope based on her past actions or alleged involvement with a murder. I do not think I have ever seen such an article about a male serial killer and the article addressing the same concept. This also perceives that society is shaped in such a way a female must be paired off with a man. Regardless of orientation or what a person's sexual orientation is, society is quick to make the assumption that a female must be "satisfied" by a having a male with her at all times. I do not think there will ever be an article addressing a male alleged murderer and his hopes for finding a wife. Instead, there are documentaries that address how an incarcerated man "deals' with having a wife while behind bars; not that he should not have hope of ever having a wife to hold.

Great analysis, Lakin. We definitely see Knox fighting against the "stickiness" of her deviant label. She is rejecting the "self-fulfilling prophecy" of the deviant label and trying to show people that they're wrong about her. We also see that the author of the article, like melissa points out, isn't buying it! Melissa's points about the gendered discussion of Knox are also great! We would definitely see very different coverage of this case were Knox a man instead of a woman.
