A series of bills introduced to California’s Governor could give non-U.S. citizens expanded rights and privileges in the state.
shyam srivastav's insight:
FOX’s Claudia Cowan reports from San Francisco: California lawmakers have sent Governor Jerry Brown seven immigration related measures that would extend new privileges and protections to immigrants. Those in the U.S. legally would be able to serve on juries and staff polling places. Illegal immigrants– some 2.5 million people, could obtain a driver’s license and become a lawyer. Members of California’s powerful Latino Caucus say the effort to bolster rights for non-citizens is a response to the stalemate in Washington over immigration reform. But, some critics say if all the bills are signed into law, fewer rights and privileges will be reserved just for those who are citizens of this country.
