Analyzing iPad Myths in Education -IPAD 4 SCHOOLS

Analyzing iPad Myths in Education -IPAD 4 SCHOOLS | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it

"Many obstacles that iPad cynics attempt to put in place when discussing a roll-out are based on untruths, poorly research and/or out-of-date information. I was delighted when my Canadian Twitter friend and fellow iPad blogger, Steve Lai decided to join forces, as we’ve done before, to combat this dis-information that floats around the education profession worldwide."

Adobe Voice: A Powerful Storytelling App - Class Tech Tips | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it

#"Storytelling is a powerful way to inspire students, build community and give children a voice.  There are a few great apps that help students of all ages write and tell their own stories (Shadow Puppet, Toontastic) and a new app that I absolutely love is Adobe Voice.  This free iPad app is very user friendly and makes the storytelling process simple for children young and old.  Kids can add pictures, text, and even choose from different icons to bring their stories to life.  Adobe Voice has an easy recording feature for students to add their voice as narration.  There is a music library and a selection of themes for users to pick out and include in their final product."

How to Infuse Digital Literacy Throughout the Curriculum

How to Infuse Digital Literacy Throughout the Curriculum | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it

In our emerging digital world, a new medium of exchange has developed: online engagement, especially via social media. Effectively engaging online requires a myriad of skills that we strive to foster in school – effective written communication, brevity and civility. These components are often highlighted in Digital Citizenship programs, but in tradition-bound K12 education, we often deride social media as trite or ineffective.

Many students still do not understand the limitations of finding information on the free web. Google is about the extent of it and if it isn't found in the first few results, it does not exist or is too hard to find (or worse still, what is found must be "it.").

From article: "We need to ensure that they know how to evaluate a website, a blog post, a tweet, a Facebook entry. These evaluative skills transfer cross curricularly and prepare students for the broader world of online communication."

The 12 Best iPad Apps For The World Language Classroom - Edudemic

"The iPad has fundamentally changed how and what I teach in my Spanish classes. First of all, I no longer use textbooks. Ever. Why would I when everything I need and more is available online or through an app? 3 Must-Know Tips For Anyone Nervous About EdTech - Edudemic | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it
Dear “Nervous To Try Something New With EdTech”: You know when you spoke with me the other day and told me that that introducing more tech into my class was fine for me because I was ‘into it’ and ‘understood’ it? That you were not going to try a new way of doing things (edtech-wise) …

Via Lynnette Van Dyke

Dennis T OConnor's curator insight, April 23, 2014 1:41 AM

I've done edtech training for nervous teachers since the days of the Apple ll and the  Commodore 64. Some things never change.  I think it's not so much the fear of tech as it is the fear of losing control of a class when the tech fails (as it always will).

The cure? Perhaps being flexible enough to have multiple fall back positions when the tech crashes and accepting the role of teacher as learner as you learn the ropes along with your students.

10 Steps To A Successful School iPad Program

10 Steps To A Successful School iPad Program | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it

"

There’s simply no magic pill – whether it’s the laptop, smartboard, iPad or the next device that comes along in a year or two. Technology alone won’t ever have the capacity to improve education unless it’s woven into a holistic vision that meets the very real and urgent educational objectives that prepare our students for life outside and after school. Well-planned technology deployments can however have a transformative impact on learning.

Here’s a list of ten requirements for a successful iPad implementation in schools."

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought | Atomic Learning UK - Technology in Education | Scoop.it

"Using tablets in the classroom–whether iPads, Androids, or surging Windows devices–is largely a matter of workflow.

If you can forgive a mixed metaphor, the traditional classroom sees the teacher as the both the director and the bottleneck of all productivity. They create assignments, assess proficiency, respond to assessment data, and refine planned instruction in light of constantly changing circumstances.

This is challenging in any context, but in 1:1 and mobile learning environments, it’s even more complex. With tablets, every student has both an information portal and a digital printing press. This means they can reach both communities and potential collaborators.

The above graphic from @ipadwells addresses this issue with a helpful graphic that visualizes a workflow, while offering up representative apps for each step of the process."
