Russian Meteor: Explosive Sonic Booms Caught On Camera (Video) | MN News Hound | Scoop.it

The Sonic booms from the impact took over 2 minutes to reach the ground, but were extremely loud. The meteorite was travelling faster than the speed of sound, at over 20,000 miles per hour. The sonic boom it made in the atmosphere hit the ground and the shock wave shattered windows, causing close to 1000 injuries. Emergency broadcasts can be heard in some of the footage.

New Scientist TV: 3D moon flyover reveals greatest detail ever | MN News Hound | Scoop.it

This flyover of the lunar surface gives the most comprehensive picture of the moon to date. Created by researchers at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and NASA, the virtual ride is made up of 70,000 still images captured by a wide-angle camera aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) from an altitude of 50 kilometers.
