In Education, Technology Changes Everything and Nothing

We have been investing more money per student, while outcomes have been flat. Faced with many challenges, we have turned to any potential solution. Many education policymakers hail technology, in particular, as the savior.

Very Helpful Research On Using Photos & Videos In Lessons | Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day…

Today, he posted about a study he helped write about the use of media in Success For All (see it here ). Again, I’m not interested in commenting on the study’s results, but I found the section near the beginning called “Theoretical Background” very interesting. It provides an excellent summary of research on how using photos and media works in learning.

A Great One Stop Resource for Social Sharing #Infographic

There are just so many social sharing buttons these days, and content marketing is more important than ever.

**As a user, it has created a moment of decision of choosing which channel to share a particular news story, or cute video.

**The goal is to have as many network peers see the content, enjoy it, and re-share.

**There’s no shame in admitting gratification in people liking something you share.

**As a Marketer, its important to help users make this decision easily, and also ensure that your content is shared with the appropriate audience on the right channels.

**Your mileage may vary, but this is a very useful one-stop resource for brands looking to get the biggest bang from their social sharing buttons.

**Just remember: when it comes to user options, less is always more.

**Pick the best three or four buttons for your site and leave it at that.

This Infographic by The Search Agents - http://bit.ly/KBCg9O , takes a closer look at the different social sharing buttons, how they work, who their target audience is and the kinds of content that will be most effective when shared via these tools.

Rethinking How We Teach The 'Net Generation'

According to writer and digital revolution expert Don Tapscott, the classic university lecture model is an outdated way of teaching a generation that has grown up making, changing and learning from digital communities.

The First Films of Great Directors: Kubrick, Coppola, Scorsese, Tarantino & Truffaut

Great directors – unless they’re Orson Welles – rarely start off making masterpieces. Their craft evolves, reminding us that great filmmaking (like everything else) takes talent, but also hard work. In case you’re doubtful, we’re presenting the first films by five iconic directors, all featured here before, but never brought together into one place. Some first films are downright choppy; some are workmanlike; some are more refined. But none exactly soar to cinematic heights.

New Pedagogies For the Digital Age | Edudemic

Steve Wheeler of the University of Plymouth explores the concept of new learning forms that don’t simply place old forms on new digital platforms, but reconsider those forms.

Key among the ideas given is personalized learning via the Just in time, Just enough, Just for me admonishment, a vision nearly impossible without a fully engaged community, smart application of technology, or both.

Can iPads Replace Laptops? - ISTE Community

One-to-one laptop programs were once considered the Holy Grail of educational technology solutions. But while most schools were still waiting to pull together the funding and support for such a program, technology continued to advance. With hundreds of thousands of free and low-cost educational apps, a portable size, a user-friendly interface, and a relatively low price point, iPads have become the gadget of the moment and, many argue, a better educational solution than laptops. Laptop advocates, however, point out that the larger devices are still better than tablets for many functions that students need, including word processing and video editing. Unfortunately, most schools can’t afford both. What do you think? Are laptops a thing of the past, or still the best option for classrooms?
