Il Bronx e l'isola segreta di City Island | New York I Love You™ | Scoop.it

Monday's must-see concerts

Monday's must-see concerts | New York I Love You™ | Scoop.it

Jens Lekman at Music Hall of Williamsburg
The wryly funny Swede concludes his three-night stand at Music Hall. The show might be sold-out, but don't let that keep you from hanging outside the venue trying to hand Jens a bit of handmade fan paraphernalia. As our preview hints, he likes that sort of stuff.

The Lemonheads at Bowery Ballroom
If you're asking if Evan Dando and the gang are making a shameless grab for cash by performing their seminal It's a Shame About Ray in its entirety, you're missing the point: Of course they are. But don't let Dando's firm grasp on the conventions of supply and demand get in your way of enjoying the show.

Tyler Ramsey at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater
If Tyler Ramsey's name doesn't automatically ring a bell, maybe it'll help if we tell you his day job is being the guitarist in Band of Horses. Fun Fact: The drummer from Band of Horses has a tattoo of Will Smith eating Rap Snacks.

Uh Huh Her at Irving Plaza
Frantic L.A. electropoppers Uh Huh Her bring the noise to NYC as part of the Keep a Breast tour, coinciding with Breast Cancer Prevention Month.

Charanga Habana All Stars at SOB's
If you're a bit indie-schmindied out, head over to SOB's for a fun-fueled night of upbeat, timba-flavored salsa.

Brain Cloud at Barbés
Dennis Lichtman, of New Orleans–style jazz band the Cangelosi Cards, leads a highly talented group of musicians into energetic Western-swing territory.

Bill Cunningham New York Trailer

For decades, this Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist has been obsessively and inventively chronicling fashion trends and high society charity soirées for the Times Style section in his columns "On the Street" and "Evening Hours." Documenting uptown fixtures (Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, David Rockefeller—who all appear in the film out of their love for Bill), downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham's enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual flair. In turn, Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace.
