StoryCorps’ mission is to provide people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to...
Connie Baques 's insight:

"Dave Isay, the founder of StoryCorps, recently won the TED Prize, and stated that his wish was for everyone in the world to record a meaningful interview with a loved one, acquaintance, or even a stranger. StoryCorps released a free app that helps in that process. It makes it super easy to create a great interview by selecting from a list of thought-provoking questions.

The app automatically records, stores, and uploads the interview.

If you're a parent or teacher, I think this is such a great tool to create a project around in order to expand the horizons of your children.

I'd recommend adding the extra element of using the app to interview a stranger. Engaging a stranger in a meaningful conversation can be very intimidating, and the growth that comes from the exercise can be substantial.

I think Dave's mission is a noble one, and I want to encourage everyone to download the StoryCorps app. If nothing else, it can give you ideas for prompts to make your everyday conversations more meaningful.

You can get it here: http://bit.ly/1NmImwh";

Strategies To Promote Critical Thinking in the Elementary Classroom

Muy importante siempre promover el pensamiento crítico

enrique rubio royo's curator insight, June 16, 2014 6:26 AM

Michel J. Boustani's curator insight, June 16, 2014 8:17 AM

Students (future adults) need to learn what is and how to critical thinking from their own discoveries. SO that they will earn the freedom of critical thinking in their own time, from their own realities... The Future of E-Ducation: The Impact of Technology and Analytics on the Education Industry

This groundbreaking EdTech study examines the way that modern technology is bringing remarkable innovation into the educational sector; a field which has historically remained fairly fixed and traditional for centuries. The report analyses the degree to which education is being made into a universally accessible, innovative, personalized, and adaptive experience, and finds that the these changes will be pivotal for achieving the United Nations’ goal of universal education by 2015.

Two Wonderful Visual Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Empowering e-Teachers | Scoop.it

"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.

The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."

Free or low cost apps

A/Prof Jon Willis's curator insight, June 16, 2014 7:12 PM

Although this is a relatively trivial example, the idea of a Bingo approach to skills building is an interesting one - at UQ we're using a passport as part of engagement processes with Aboriginal school students visiting the university. For every activity they participate in, there is a unique stamp for their passport. The bingo card idea is similar so that across a semester, students fill up their bingo card with activities that build their skills in a range of domains, or across a range of technologies or tools.
