QR Codes Extend Library Programming | American Libraries Magazine

QR Codes Extend Library Programming | American Libraries Magazine | New-Tech Librarian | Scoop.it

Pikes Peak Library District found Delivr to be an ideal code management platform, with simple code creation for URLs and text, as well as integrated tracking. Not only is Delivr a free service, it also provides exceptional options that many other companies would charge for. For example, the campaign can be tested, evaluated, and revised, and the URL can be substituted without changing the QR code itself. Delivr’s tracking information provides the number of scans, the type of device used, and when and where the scan occurred. The service also allows users to link up to 4,000 characters of text and offers options to embed links, images, and videos.

South Jersey high school librarians teaching students how to use high technology in their research | New-Tech Librarian | Scoop.it
A steady murmur of voices emanated from the Cedar Creek High School library. But as librarian Christine Finn walked toward a table of students, it wasn’t to quiet them down, but to assist in their history project creating a wiki on the Great Plains.

Librarians (or media specialists as they are also called) say the school library has become less a static place to look up information and more of an active jumping off point for learning.

Information Literacy Beyond Library 2.0 - facet publishing

Information Literacy Beyond Library 2.0 - facet publishing | New-Tech Librarian | Scoop.it

This new book picks up where the best-selling Information Literacy meets Library 2.0 left off. In the last three years the information environment has changed dramatically, becoming increasingly dominated by the social and the mobile. This new book asks where we are now, what is the same and what has changed, and, most crucially, how do we as information professionals respond to the new information literacy and become a central part of the revolution itself?

Some of the key topics covered are:
• the evolution of ‘online’ into the social web as mainstream
• the use of social media tools in information literacy
• the impact of mobile devices on information literacy delivery
• shifting literacies, such as metaliteracy, transliteracy and media literacy, and their effect on information literacy.

An architect’s perspective on designing for changing constituencies

To some librarians it must seem like a perfect storm: Budgets are being slashed, ebooks suddenly are outselling their print ancestors, electronic movies on demand are slowing over-the-counter DVD lending, and the general public can find answers to their basic reference-oriented questions online.

Besides librarians, architects are among the people most concerned about how, and how rapidly, such trends play out. Plans made a year ago for library additions or even modest renovations—never mind an entirely new building—are probably out of date.
