European scientists have gathered tiny fungi that take shelter in Antarctic rocks and sent them to the International Space Station.

Experiments on the space station show that Earth microorganisms can survive in conditions similar to those on the surface of Mars. If Earth microorganisms can survive on Mars, perhaps microorganisms native to Mars may still be living there.
