It's official: Convention Bureau folding into Houston First

It's official: Convention Bureau folding into Houston First | Digital-News on Scoop.it today | Scoop.it
The two groups "have officially joined forces as a single, clear voice for the City of Houston," according to a joint statement from Houston First and the visitors bureau, and the union will "streamline the decision-making process and create greater efficiency." Brown Convention Center and Hilton Americas-Houston, and manages lease agreements for Toyota Center, the Hobby Center, Bayou Place and the Downtown Aquarium facilities. Supporters say the proposed realignment of the visitors bureau and Houston First would reduce confusion and overlapping functions and help attract more conventions and tourists. In January Houston First released a proposal to transform the area around the George R. Brown convention center with more landscaping and retail and less car traffic. The project would also include a new facade for the convention center by replacing the front wall with paned glass and create more gathering spaces.
