8 Superheroes as Fonts

8 Superheroes as Fonts | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it
Designer Matthew Olin pulled out intricate characteristics of popular fonts to recreate some of our favorite comic book superheroes.
Ken Morrison's insight:

This resource has room for improvement, but I think that it is an interesting concept to personify fonts.  What I REALLY would have liked would be for the explanations to also tell me how the 'superhero fonts' make people feel.  That is what is really important when choosing a font.  Perhaps Mr. Olin has plans for that.  This is still worth sharing 'as is'.

Is Facebook making us forget? Study shows that taking pictures ruin memories

Is Facebook making us forget? Study shows that taking pictures ruin memories | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it
Cultural commentators and itinerant moaners have often complained that our obsession with taking pictures stops us from experiencing the moment, and now scientists are saying that our snap-happy habits may also be ruining our memory.
Ken Morrison's insight:

This study says that in general, taking photos decreases our memory of events.  It also finds that zooming in on objects seems to decrease this effect.  Some variables that need to be examined further include the frequency of viewing our photos after the event, as well as how many times your social network comments/likes a photo if posted online. Note: I added the last suggested research variable

Prezi Design Strategies

Can we apply concepts used in video production to Prezi design? Let's find out! In this Prezi I pull terms from Bruce Block's book The Visual Story: Seeing the Structure of Film, TV, and New Media. Let me know what you think.

Via Baiba Svenca
Ken Morrison's insight:

Honestly, I am always a bit hesitant when people ask me if I will show them how to use Prezi because I see it used incorrectly so often. Much of that frustration is due to too much zooming and poor placement of graphics and text. I feel that this is a good resource for helping us all become better designers of visual aids for presentations.
