There is a new King. It is King Trust. Not King Content!

There is a new King. It is King Trust. Not King Content! | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

We have been following the mantra of "Content Is King".  With the overflow of people following this great advice, we now must focus on building trust through great content.

Ken Morrison's insight:

I really like this article about the "why" and the "how-to" think differently about content creation.  I really like that the author includes quotes from people in the industry to back up her thoughts.1. Don't build on rented land -Social media is great....if you have a plan to get them to your home page.2. Help, not hype, your customer

Don't be yelling '"Buy this! Buy this!"  Be truly helpful

3. Write what people want to read, not what you want to write

Take the focus off of yourself if you want to win their trust!
4. Reference industry influencers
Help people know that you are always learning from the top minds in your industry.  Also, it will help your search engine juice!

5. Create content for all types of readers

Help your customers feel at home in their community.  Think of ways to add value to their lives outside of your store.  The author gives an example of a real estate broker who made a blog about great pizza places.

6. There is more to content than links

Links are very important.  But don't let it blind you!

7. Don't forget the "marketing" in content marketing

Don't be afraid to promote your content!  If it is important enough to create, it is important enough to promote! "If you don't promote it, Nobody will ever read it!"

If you are shy, the author suggests writing something like this:

"Hey there folks, I just wrote up a quick post about some cool local resources I've been working on recently. If you have a moment, take a quick peek and let me know what you think. I'm just getting started with this whole content marketing thing, so any feedback you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Here's the link, thanks!"

8. It's all about relationships

Be an active team player.  Promote other writers' content.  This is important.  Engage!

9. Think like a publisher
Go to a book store and look at books and magazines.  Make your content look and feel like great traditional publishing.

Your job is to engage, entertain and inform!  Don't forget that

10. Use other sites to find out what kind of content people want

Stop thinking that you have nothing to say and nothing to add. It is not true and you know that.  "Inspiration comes from adding upon what someone has done before."
----Always be aware of what is popular in your industry and write about those things.
Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, May 13, 6:26 PM

This is a fairly detailed article with great ideas. How often do we hear someone say, "Trust me?" Those words raise my spidey senses.

1. The learning objective comes first.
2. No technology is perfect.
3. Digital natives? Sort of.
4. Make do.
5. You've got to know it to believe in it.
Teachers who routinely use tech—in the classroom and in their personal lives—know it's important and beneficial for their students. Those who don’t won’t.
6. Leaders have followers.

7. Filtering: Not so fast.

Should You Leave Facebook? EdgeRank Confusion, Promoted Posts, and Why Small Business Owners Are Exceedingly Frustrated | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it
Image via CrunchBase Facebook’s proprietary algorithm, known as EdgeRank, determines how or if a post on your business page appears in your fans’ timelines.
Ken Morrison's insight:

Ken's Key Takeaway:

EdgeRank is getting more and more frustrating.  It seems like we are throwing more and more time and energy at a bullseye that keeps moving. I feel that Google's updates are reasonable and usually improve the user experience for searchers.  I don't like how Facebook is systematically making it more difficult for page managers to reach the people who have clearly shown that they want to interact with our content.  The new advertisements for paid promotions right next to the increasingly foggy Insights window is like sandpaper on an open wound.

John Jantsch Does It Again! Free eBook "The Total Online Presence Blueprint" | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

I present a 12-month plan of attack or blueprint for working on your presence in the coming year. I’ve long taught this “live by the calendar” approach as I think it helps business owners, who wear many hats, get above the overwhelm by taking it topic by topic and manageable bit by bit in an attempt to forge something that looks like continuous progress.

Ken Morrison's insight:

My worst workout of the year so far was the time when I was listening to John Hantsch's podcast on this topic.  I was continually stopping to type out notes.  I am excited to dig into this free digital book.

John Jantsch is one of my favorite content creators and authors.  He shares so much practical content with achievable action sets. 12 Valuable Tips for Video SEO Beginners

12 Valuable Tips for Video SEO Beginners | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on Search Engine Watch:

"If you aren't optimizing your videos to match what people are searching, your videos are likely to get lost and not reach their intended audience. Without reaching their intended audience, they serve no purpose.

Use the following 12 valuable tips to get your video to reach the first page of Google and YouTube, but most importantly build visibility to a large niche audience that is interested in what you have to offer.

1. Content Quality Check:
Ensure your videos are relevant, informative, and rich with content. Don't waste time producing videos that have nothing to do with your brand or service.

2. Title:
Capture the potential viewer's attention with a catchy title that contains related key phrases that are relevant to your brand or service.

3. Tags:
Optimize your video with important key phrases or keywords. Don't use complicated words or terminology that may not be common to the average person.

4. Description:
Optimize your video's description with relevant keywords and include a keyword-rich description of your video to allow search engines to index it and rank it higher, and for users to better understand your video before viewing.

5. Links:
Use video as a portal to other content on your site. Upload a couple of videos to portals like YouTube and Vimeo, and consider providing links back to related content and other relevant videos on your site.

6. Transcripts:
Provide transcripts of your videos. Good old HTML content is still a favorite with search engines.

7. Length:
Keep your video at five minutes or less. The average amount of time a user spends on a YouTube video is around 1 minute 30 seconds.
If you have video content that is of long duration, consider breaking it up into smaller pieces and tagging each accordingly, to be more appealing to the viewer.

8. Video Sitemaps:
Submit a video sitemap to Google to make sure that the search engine spiders can find your video content and index it accordingly. This is the easiest way for search engines to find your video content.

9. Branding:
As video is a great way to generate brand awareness with prospects, take advantage of this opportunity to incorporate your brand and logos into your videos.

10. Embedding Options:
Help your video go viral. Allow other users access to the coding that will allow them to embed your video on their website or blog. This can help gain valuable back links and shares that will boost your rankings in search engines.

11. Syndication:
Submit your video to RSS feeds and syndicate your videos to drive exposure across various online platforms and to optimize your videos even more.

12. Share, Share, Share!
Get on your social networks, look through your email contacts, write on your blogs, and get the hype going..."

Digital Storytelling - DAOW of storytelling

Digital Storytelling - DAOW of storytelling | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

Ken's Key Takeaway:

The best way to help students understand the effects of media is for them to become creators of media.  By seeing how they can shape people's perception of a story, they begin to realize how all consumers of media are vlunerable to the bias of the producers.  This is the heart of media literacy.

It provides nice framework and primer for digital storytelling.  The focus is on how to use it in an educational environment.  I believe this could be used as a textbook.
