Ken's Key Takeaway: The number of governments that censor Internet content has grown to 40 today from about four in 2002. A strong call to action by internet Founding Father Vint Cert More and more governments are trying to take away the Internet as we know it. I also STRONGLY suggest watching this 4-minute video from the same organization that helped us understand SOPA last Fall: https://www.whatistheitu.org/?ref=fftf
Ken's Key Takeaway I am concerned that this will cause more polarization and group think. I am also concerned that other countries may follow. I am concerned about Electronic Colonialism (media created in US/European/Japan shaping cultures around the world), but cutting off all incoming ideas is not good. Ken Citing cybersecurity concerns, the Iranian government is due to launch a national computer network. Critics of the new government policy, however, say it is ...
What would you do if the government asked you to hand over your computer?
On The Media is my favorite new podcast of 2012. This episode is full of interesting news, but I think the most important is the segment about a New York Judge who is not letting a NYC man defend himself in court for a comment he posted on Twitter. The judge says that once it is 'said' in public, it is property of Twitter and the man is not guaranteed a right to appear in court to defend it. Also, the 'pitch perfect' segment is a nice salute to the death of Barry Becher. And wait, there's more....
Some USA 'leaders' are trying to make it illegal to sell your used books, music, movies, and handphones. Ken ACT NOW: DON'T LET COPYRIGHT HOLDERS STEAL OUR PROPERTY RIGHTS!
Time to get angry....again. CISPA might be more dangerous than SOPA. If you will excuse the language, you will learn more via the Jon Stewart clip. It is very disgusting to see our 'leaders' talk about this bill. They are not doing their homework and we will pay the consequences. Spreading CISPA Awareness (Similar to SOPA, But Worse), Anonymous Initiates Tweet Bomb..
Hollywood wanted SOPA to pass. But they wanted to stand in the way of many past technological advances as well. Here's a quick look at the history.

A United Nations human rights body resolution passed this week called Internet access and freedom of online expression a basic human right.
Ken's Key takeaway: Disturbing. Simply Disturbing. The quote about 'looking foreign" is pathetic if it is true. Ken While trying to board a flight out of Buffalo, New York recently, a PhD student at Arizona State found out the hard way that being on a no-fly list isn’t the only way to attract the attention of the TSA — wearing a funny shirt will do the trick, too.
I am thankful that "Demand Progress Now" shared this with me a few days ago. I highly support that group for sharing the news on the ground regarding our internet freedom. Hollywood is waging an ongoing war against the Internet by pushing bills like SOPA and encouraging the Department of Justice to shut down websites -- and even imprison people -- just for aggregating links to sites that the movie industry doesn't...
An Australian documentardocumentary about Private Bradley Manning and Wikileaks.
"Disgusting!" Don't let this happen. About a year ago, the experts in our field were telling us that we don't really have to worry about SOPA, etc. but that we should be aware that some US 'leaders' were bold enough to consider it. Seven months later, it almost passed. We need to be alert to this UN move. Ken Morrison In The Wall Street Journal, Information Age columnist Gordon Crovitz writes that leaked documents show a real threat to the international flow of information.
FlickR's challenges in policing their online community. How do they decide what photos are too racey, too racist, or too manipulative of their "no-selling" rule? I feel that this is an interesting article about trying to balance free speech, the eyes of children and respect others cultures while maintaining a community that will keep viewers and investors happy. I like the comment, "We Don't need to take all comers" KM
For Republicans, opposition to intellectual property laws is starting to look like a political winner, and that should terrify Hollywood as it misreads where the pop-culture power base now lies.

I am a big fan of Scoop.it. It adds value to my professional career. I find so many things that I am interested in. It is fun for me to try to understand the algorythm. I believe that curation will be a powerful tool for our future.
