How To Create An Animated Doodle Video for a School History Project | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it
Ken Morrison's insight:

This looks like a lot of work, but I can see students really getting into it.  It looks like a great way to 'trick' students into working very hard to learn the things needed for a successful project. (that they would have fun doing).

Ken Morrison's insight:

Ken' Key Takeaway:

By connecting content producers with professional translators, Google is going to add a lot of value to Youtube.  I'm excited to see how ths work

Robin Good's curator insight, February 21, 5:00 PM

Google Translate has just announced that it is now possible to order professional translations of any video transcription directly from within your YouTube account.

Not only.

You can also get an immediate time delivery estimate and a precise cost for the translation task and you can pay immediately for it via credit card/PayPal.

From the official Google Translate blog: "Now you can connect directly with translation vendors and pay to get your captions translated quickly and professionally.

When you request a translation for your captions in YouTube, we’ll display a list of vendors along with their estimated pricing and delivery date so you can easily compare. We’ve initially collaborated with two companies, Gengo and Translated.net, to make their services available to you and to streamline the ordering process."

Interesting for those who are in different countries than the US or want a wider global presense!

Tagmotion's curator insight, February 22, 6:53 PM

Another sign of the growth in video captioning & translation.

And more evidence that video content is increasingly valuable enough to justify manual processes being applied to it.

Education - the great divide

Education - the great divide | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

A sad story of two British Headteachers attempting to fix deep problems in their schools . The two headteachers see the same three factors at work, in their success and in their failure: the intake of children; the provision of resources; the freedom to be professional. The stars of the private sector have all three.

Ken's Key Take-aways:

1) Selective intake of students is crucial to ongoing success of the school

2) Charisma is important for getting students interested in a subject.  It is not enough, but it is important.

Conversation Starter:

The analysis is alarming: over a period of 30 years, beginning in the 60s, the quest for excellence was undermined by an obsession with equality
