As many times as you might hear the phrase "email marketing is dead," if you ask anyone who actually uses it, they will tell you that it most certainly isn't. Email marketing is one of the best ways to spread content and reach your customers directly.

That said, there is one downside - some people just don't like the sight of that cluttered inbox. When their frustration reaches a tipping point, they're likely to unsubscribe to your emails, and you'll never be able to reach them directly again.

Some companies, though, take this as an opportunity to show some empathy, and maybe even a little humor, in an effort to reconnect with their valued customers. Hubspot's newest email unsubscribe message is simply awesome. Check it out.

OtherInBox handles e-mail overload; knows too much?

OtherInBox handles e-mail overload; knows too much? | An Eye on New Media | Scoop.it

PRODUCTIVITY vs. PRIVACY ?

OK, this may seem to be a bit off topic.  Yet, in the same way that Facebook is aggregating our online social behaviors and making a killing by selling that information to marketers, Other Inbox (OIB) is aggregating our email behaviors and selling that information to marketers.

The Pros = It adds to my productivity by sorting my email for me before I see it.  I know that you can do this with well-planned-out filters, but I like how these smart folders learn from my behavior and automize updates

The Trade-off = Yes, they are going through my email and tayloring ads for me.  This is on the agregate level and the CEO says in this linked interview that he understands that if there is a security breach, this promising business is finished.

Ken's Key Takeaway:

Big Brother has your email password and monitors your behavior.  But Big Brother does a GREAT job of cleaning your inbox 'house' while you are busy being productive at other things.  I have used it for about three months and I am very satisfied and not very scared.

This will be an interesting business to watch!

Ken
